Mathematical modeling activities involve students’ abilities of understanding,analysis,expression and practical application of mathematics,which are of great significance to students’ development.The modeling activity can give students a new experience,so as to arouse students’ interests in learning.Mathematical modeling ideas are required to be embodied in daily teaching in junior middle school,but there is lack of realistic problems for the process of abstract hypothesis.As a result,the researcher tried to design teaching contents which are for the purpose of having students make mathematical models by themselves to make up for the deficiency.The researcher collated the related knowledge about mathematical modeling thinking in Grade Seven by doing textual analysis,and found the deficiency in teaching of modeling by interviewing teachers who are teaching or used to teach models in Grade Seven.Through case studies which covered the observation of the students’ response in class and the questionnaire after class,I tried to have class with a specific teaching goal of modeling and understand why students have their views of mathematical modeling.After that,the researcher got the students’ perceptions of mathematical modeling.The researcher got the current situation of teaching of modeling in Grade Seventh and the rules of teaching design.Teachers in this school are positive about the role of mathematical modeling,but have a negative attitude towards the implementation of the complete mathematical modeling courses in Grade Seventh.It is more appropriate to teaching the model before use than learning the model in a problem situation.The activity is more effective than teaching.The problem designs of daily teaching and modeling activities are all important,but different in their basis and purpose.In Grade Seven,realistic problems for process of abstract hypothesis are important in class aim at modeling.Modeling activities and evaluations outside classroom teaching are indispensable.Variant exercises are also essential.The teaching of algebraic model and geometric model needs to be different,but not independent.To set up reasonable situation,we need to consider the original knowledge and experience of students.And we should allow students at different levels to interpret the same situation differently.Improving students’ interests and enhancing modeling awareness should be priorities at any time.
