In the time background of "Internet +",Developing students' key competency has become an important goal of current education,In our country's school education system, the curriculum status is mainly represented by subject curriculum.Training the key competency of various disciplines is the main way to implement the key competency of students' development.Geography,as a comprehensive science that combines literature with science, explores the issues of contemporary population, resources, environment and development. These are complex and complex problems. Most of these are related to the knowledge of other disciplines, such as physics, chemistry and biology, and plays a very important role in training students' comprehensive quality and promoting people's overall development. However,in the present process of geography teaching in junior high school, the teaching methods are single and the teaching materials are obsolete. So the key competency of students cannot be effectively cultivated and the demands of all-round development of them cannot be well met.STEM education is an emerging teaching concepts and method,It advocates the concepts of interdisciplinarity,project-driven,problems-solving and comprehensive thinking, which is consistent with the concept of Cultivating geographical key competency, and it can become a new method to improve students' key competency. Therefore, this study based on STEM educational concept, which is supported by geography, integrates related discipline knowledge, designed to cultivate students' discipline core accomplishment and develop students' core literacy, promote the all-round development of students.Firstly, through literature research, this study analyzes and summarizes the domestic and international research status of STEM education and the geography teaching in middle school. It defines the involved important concepts as the starting point and perspective of follow-up research;Secondly, based on the " Maryland State STEM Standards of Practice Framework Grades 6-12" ? "key competency requirements for different disciplines" and the " Standards of Geography Course of Normal junior middle School" and referring to the general process of engineering design and the geography teaching status of junior high school,we designed the junior high school geography teaching activity based on STEM Educational concept;then, the author processes three rounds of iteration incremental study, which is based on research by regarding design method as the main line and selecting the Class 1,Grade eight from Jiuzhou middle school in Lanzhou as the experimental object. After each practice interation, the class observation and students' interviews are conducted, the Final teaching activity design and the strategies for geography teaching activities in junior high school based on the concept of STEM education is expected to be improved. Finally,in order to further investigate the teaching effect,we analyze the practice effect from tow aspects of students' STEM Literacy and geographical key competencies through the analysis of questionnaire data, test data, interview data and teaching support data. The results show that this new teaching method has a positive impact on students' STEM Literacy and geographical key competencies. It has achieved the teaching goal, improved the geography teaching and the teaching effect and helped develop the key competencies of students.
