Nowadays,coupled with the scarcity of material and human resources caused by college expansion is the rise of expanding class size which has been applied by many colleges and universities.Even though,it has been proven that this measure can alleviate the shortage of education resources faced by colleges and universities,it also brings in so many negative results.“Marginal Person” is one major negative result happening in classroom teaching.In this paper,I focused on the “Marginal Person” phenomenon in large class size,in order to analyze the relationship between class size and “Marginal Person” in classroom teaching,by exploring and explaining the behavior of “Marginal Person” and education plight in large class size(what),the reason for “Marginal Person” in large class size(why),and the solutions for “Marginal Person” in large class size(how).Then,I proposed some strategies to help“Marginal Person” enter into mainstreaming society,and receive good education.In this paper,I chose the students majoring in English at one university in Dalian as my subjects,and I took classroom observation and interview to investigate and analyze Marginal Person' classroom behavior,identity,influence factors.The main findings were as follows: firstly,the class size plays one important role in the amount of “Marginal Person” – the “Marginal Person” is more likely to occur in larger class size.I found that the size of class had indirect influences on students,by impacting the curriculum status,the physical surroundings,the sociocultural situation,student,teacher,and classroom management.Secondly,“Marginal Person” has some common characteristics – the coexistence of implicit and explicit,the coexistence of similarity and difference,and the coexistence of stability and development,and these common characteristics can provide us help for research the “Marginal Person”.Thirdly,generally,even though the rate of the “Marginal Person” in large class size is higher than that in small class size,some factors,such as teacher can lower this rate in large class size.For instance,teachers can reduce the skipping classes of college students by integrating the number of absence from class into final grade.The strategies to solve the problem of “Marginal Person” in large class size are as follows.Firstly,from the perspective of colleges and universities,they should focus on the way out of large class size,teachers' effort,management strategy and the effort of primary group.Secondly,for the “Marginal Person”,they should form a correct conception about study and knowledge,take an active part in club activities,boost their sense of self-esteem and self-control,define correct role,and encourage themselves to fit into the group.Thirdly,the society should purify network environment and lead the populace with right public opinion.Fourthly,the parents should not only change the education way,but only improve communications with colleges and universities and teachers.
