Concept maps show concepts in circles or boxes and one can indicate relationships between concepts by connecting lines or linking words. As an effective teaching strategy, the author tries to apply it into biology teaching practice of a high school. Therefore, the author carried out the following three teaching practice.Firstly, the author tried to train students to use concept maps by three steps, guiding students to master how to draw map concept step by step: introduce concept map, scaffolding students and cooperate concept maps.Secondly, concept maps could assist teachers to teach.First, through analyzing teaching materials, teachers need to how which part is suitable for using concept map, then classify them respectively, corresponding to different types of concept maps to their teaching.Secondly, teachers need to draw the concept maps of a chapter for entire chapter planning. Finally, teachers need to conduct the teaching steps by their designed teaching plans according to concept maps. Finally, the paper and pencil test again evaluate students' learning and performance. The experiment was conducted for two classes at the same level in our school and randomly selected the class as the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class used the concept map teaching strategy, while the control class adopted the traditional teaching method.According to the analysis by SPSS software, the results show:(1)the concept map can improve students' academic performance to a certain extent, because the concept map can help students construct their own knowledge framework, concept, and can also assist students to correct mistakes of concepts and can also gradually assimilate the new knowledge;(2)concept maps can test the understanding of students' knowledge;and(3)it is helpful for students to continue to learn the concept map by feedback from teachers timely.
