Reading extracurricular books can enlighten students' minds,develop students' intelligence,expand their horizons,increase their knowledge,cultivate their temperament,and improve their language and writing abilities.Looking at ancient and modern times,all accomplished statesmen,scientists and writers do not pay no attention to reading.Therefore,extracurricular reading is increasingly valued by schools and even the whole nation.However,compared with developed cities,what is the status of extracurricular reading in remote and backward rural primary schools?What are the difficulties they will encounter?How to help them get rid of these plight?These doubts prompted researchers to choose this topic for research.First,through the analysis and collation of the existing literature,this study preliminarily understood the current research situation of primary and secondary school pupils' extracurricular reading.Then,the questionnaire survey was used to investigate six aspects of rural primary school students' extracurricular reading purposes,extracurricular reading choices,extracurricular reading methods,extracurricular reading content,extracurricular reading resources,and extracurricular reading environment.In order to make up the insufficiency of the questionnaire and obtain more abundant materials,some teachers and parents were interviewed by interview method,and their views and suggestions on the pupils' extracurricular reading were learned.On this basis,we explore the causes of rural primary school extracurricular reading difficulties.In the end,the study combined with the actual situation of rural primary school students,and with the help of some successful cases in practice,on the basis of the analysis of cases,find out effective ways and methods to carry out extracurricular reading.It is found that the effective implementation of extracurricular reading in rural primary schools requires three efforts of schools,teachers and parents.First,the school should reform the evaluation method based on achievement,strengthen the construction of campus environment,organize various reading activities and strengthen the library construction;two,teachers should make class reading plans,carry out class reading activities,recommend class reading content,teach students reading methods,and ensure students reading time.Three,parents should improve their thinking and cognition,create a family of books,cultivate children's good reading habits from childhood,and strengthen supervision over internet reading.
