Objectives: As one of the traditional sports concerning health care,Qigong Baduanjin has developed on the basis of the traditional method and has spread until now.With the strong support and promotion of the national sports policy,it has been more and more feasible for the mass to practice and strengthen their bodies and has been gradually favored by the people of all ages.The purpose of this paper is to explore the health keeping function of Baduanjin and to find out a sport project which can improve the physical fitness of college students.Through eight weeks of Qigong Baduanjin exercise,the changes of body composition,muscle force and balance ability of non-sport major female college students were studied,hoping to give an objective evaluation of the fitness effect of Qigong Baduanjin.Methods: 30 female juniors in Liaoning Normal University were selected randomly.They practiced Qigong Baduanjin at 6:30 to 7:10 every Monday to Friday morning for eight weeks in a row.Before the experiment was carried out,a unified test had been conducted.Body composition indexes included BMI index,body fat rate,fat content,protein content,lean body weight,muscle content,total water content and vital capacity;The parameters of the isometric muscle strength test included the backward extension and the forward flexion of the trunk,the head and neck extension,the head and neck flexion,the left leg outreach,the right leg outreach,the left leg adduction,the right leg adduction,and the horizontal pull of the back arm;Bone density test index included bone mineral density index BQI and T value;Balance ability test score.After the experiment,the above indicators were tested again and the data was processed and analyzed by using the SPSS data analysis software.Results:(1)After eight weeks of Qigong Baduanjin exercise,the body fat rate and BMI index of the female students decreased significantly(P < 0.05),and their weight was evidently decreased(P < 0.01),while there was a remarkable increase(P < 0.05)in the vital capacity.(2)In the isometric muscle force test,the movement strength of their head and neck extension,abduction of left and right legs and the pulling force of back and arm improved remarkably(P<0.05).Similarly,the movement strength of trunk extension greatly increased(P<0.01).(3)In the study of bone density test,there was no significant difference in bone density before and after eight-week practice.(4)In the balance test,the scores of those female college students increased significantly after eight weeks' practice(P<0.05).(5)In this test,there is a significant moderate correlation between the muscle force and the balance ability of the right leg abduction.Conclusions:(1)The practice of Qigong Baduanjin has a significant effect on improving the lung capacity of female college students.(2)Regular Qigong Baduanjin exercise is of great help to female college students' body shape.(3)Qigong Baduanjin exercise is helpful to improve the muscle strength of female college students.(4)Regular Qigong Baduanjin exercise can improve the physical coordination of female college students and improve their balance ability.(5)There is a significant correlation between the balance ability of female college students and their muscle strength of the abduction of the right leg.
