In order to develop better education in our country,we have to attach importance to reading literacy at students' early age.However,the Chinese reading of primary students is not good enough.Furthermore,owing to their lacks of practical activities and social experience,the primary students are generally found with insufficient abilities,such as locating key information and summarizing the contents in the articles.Besides,the teachers also lack systematic indicators of reading literacy to determine primary students' reading abilities.Without precise diagnosis of students' weakness in reading,it is difficult for teachers to provide personalized instruction for reading.For this reason,there is an urgent need to provide reading ability diagnosis for primary students as well as personalized reading instruction..The research is based on an online assessment system for diagnosing primary students'reading abilities in order to understand their weaknesses.According to the theories of the reading literacy,previous research has developed five indicators of reading abilities,including understanding,explanation,inference,organization and reflection.Previous research has also designed an online assessment system to identify students' weaknesses of reading abilities.According to the related theories of reading strategies,this study designs the learning tasks of five reading strategies for students to improve their reading abilities.Furthermore,through the feedback of the online assessment system,students may select the weak reading abilities and learn reading strategies from the learning tasks.Furthermore,by receiving instructions and doing exercises,they learn how to use the reading strategies during reading.In a sense,the process is a form of self-regulated learning.In order to understand how students regulate their learning in the online assessment and learning system,the research conducted questionnaires to understand whether the students can correctly perceive their weaknesses of reading abilities,and to evaluate their self-regulation ability.By doing so,this study may reveal the relationships among students' reading abilities,the self-regulated learning abilities,and active learning behaviors in the system.Besides,by analyzing students' answers in the learning tasks to understand their problems of using reading strategies and provide low-ability students with suggestions.This study may also provide Chinese language teachers with new ideas for the designs of traditional Chinese reading instruction by understanding students' weaknesses of reading abilities.
