With the expansion of college enrollment started in the late 90 s of the last century, many schools have expanded their teaching staff by introducing a large number of talents. The proportion of young teachers in college teachers has gradually increased. At present, higher education in China has developed to the stage of popularization. As the main body of higher education system, local colleges and universities are playing an essential role.As the backbone of teaching staff, young teachers are playing an important role in teaching, scientific research, social service, and cultural inheritance and innovation. As the main force of the teachers in higher education, the professional development of young teachers in local colleges and universities has a great influence on the construction of teaching staff and the quality of talent cultivation. Therefore, how to guide and promote the professional development of young teachers is an urgent problem for local colleges and universities in China.Based on the theory of teachers' professional development stages, learning organization theory and hierarchy of needs, this article uses literature research, interviews, questionnaire survey, and statistical analysis to study the professional development of young teachers in local colleges and universities. On the basis of constructing the theoretical model of the professional development of the young teachers in local colleges and universities, the empirical analysis is carried out through the data obtained by the questionnaire survey to verify the theoretical model.According to the relevant data analysis, sum up the existing problems of the professional development of the young teachers in local colleges and universities, and to put forward the countermeasures and suggestions to guide and promote the development. The research shows that there are obvious group differences among the young teachers in local colleges and universities.Teachers of different genders, teaching age, professional title and educational background have different professional development degrees. In the four dimensions of professional knowledge, professional competence, professional sentiment and professional ethics subdivided by professional development, the development of young teachers is not balanced. The lack of independent development awareness is also an obvious problem in the professional development of young teachers in local colleges and universities.Due to the lack of enough attention to the professional development of teachers in various aspects such as society, school and family, young teachers do not have a good environment for development. It is necessary to promote the development of young teachers from many aspects.First of all, young teachers themselves should improve the internal drive of professional development.Secondly, the local colleges and universities should strengthen the support to encourage the professional development of young teachers.Furthermore,it is especially important to deal with the relationship between family affairs and school work. Finally, the harmonious social environment created by all aspects of society for the professional development of young teachers is also an important guarantee for the development of young teachers.
