Nowadays, floating population plays an important role in China's social and economic construction. However, they are still vulnerable groups in urban society and have not yet fully integrated into the cities where they drifted to.Meanwhile, with time passing by,the floating population is undergoing a transition from the old generation to the new generation. The internal differences among the groups are becoming increasingly prominent. The inter-generational differences in the mental health between the old and new generation have become associated phenomena. Therefore, effective solutions to solve this problem are not only conducive to the development of the psychological health of the floating population, but also of great importance to accelerating the process of urbanization and industrialization in China. This article starts from the perspective of social integration, adopts the national dynamic monitoring data of floating population conducted by the Floating Population Management Division of the National Health and Family Planning Commission in 2014,aims to explore the relationship between social integration and the mental health situation of inter-generational floating population. This paper divides mental health into two aspects:life satisfaction and depression tendency.Social integration is divided into four indicators:social-economic integration, community participation, cultural integration and psychological integration.Descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, multiple linear regressions and other methods are used for data analyzing. The study found that:Firstly, there is a significant difference in the mental health of the inter-generational floating population in China. The mental health of the new generation of floating population is notably lower than the older generation.Secondly, there is a negative correlation between life satisfaction and depression tendency.Third, social integration has different effects on the psychological health of inter-generational groups.Social security and maintaining hometown culture can reduce the depression of the older generation of floating population and have no obvious impact on the depressive tendency of the new generation of groups. There were significant differences in the effect of income, weekly working hours, hometown cultural preservation factors, cultural value differences, and local acceptance factors on life satisfaction of both the old and new generation of floating population. Finally, through an empirical analysis of the mental health status and influencing factors of the old and new generation of floating population, the problems existing in the mental health of the floating population of the two generations are integrated. For different groups, the inter-generational diversion mechanism is introduced, and corresponding policy recommendations are proposed to improve the mental health situation of floating population.
