PURPOSE:Shakeweight,as a fitness equipment,is widely circulated in the general population, and its fitness effect has also been verified by relevant researches. However,it is the first time that Shakeweight has been used for fitness in people with spinal cord injury. The fitness effect of Shakeweight training for people with spinal cord injury remains unclear. Therefore, this study mainly uses Shakeweight to train people with spinal cord injury, and explores the influence of Shakeweight training on muscle strength, cardiopulmonary function and quality of life in patients with spinal cord injury.futhermore,it can also provide example for effective training of this group of people. At the same time,it also provides a new type of exercise equipment for this group of people.METHOD: Fifty-two subjects with spinal cord injuries were randomly distributed into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was made up of 26 men,10 males and 16 females. The control group consisted of 26 men,9 males and 17 females. The average age of the control group was 57.5 years old,and the average age of the experimental group was 59.6 years old.The subjects in the experimental group were subjected to Shakeweight aerobic training for 6 months. The exercise intensity was moderate, exercise time was 30 minutes each time, and exercise frequency was 2times per week. The control group did not have any intervention and continued to maintain its normal lifestyle.Test methods: Selecting the grip strength, muscle thickness and muscle dimension indicators to evaluate the muscle strength of the subject.using the vital capacity, heart rate and blood pressure to evaluate the subjects' heart and lung function.Utilizing the WHOQOL-BREF scale developed by the World Health Organization in 1998 on spinal cord injury to assess The quality of life.Data analysis: Normal distribution test was performed with the data. When the measurement data was in normal distribution, the paired samples were used for comparison within the group and the T-test was used for comparison between the groups.RESULTS:(1)Muscle strength.Grip force: The grip strength(L)of the experimental group increased from 26.44±9.83 to 30.10±10.26,the grip strength(R)increased from27.78±9.57 to 32.33±10.64,and the left and right grip strength increased by 13.8%and 16.4% respectively. After 6 months of experimental intervention, left and right grip strength increased.Paired sample T-test was performed on the data of the experimental group.Grip strength(L,p=0.007),grip force(R,p=0.002),indicating that the difference in the experimental group were significant before and after the experiment. At the end of the experiment, the independent sample T-test was performed on the data of the experimental group and the control group;there was a significant difference between the two groups of data.Training programs can effectively increase the grip of the subject.Muscle thickness: Six months after the experimental intervention,an intra-group paired sample T-test was performed on the experimental group. The results showed that the diaphragm(relaxation),biceps brachii(relaxation),and biceps brachii(isometric)were significant different. There was a corresponding increase in muscle thickness in the diaphragm(isoplegia)and triceps(relaxation)muscles, but no significant difference was found. The muscle thickness of the triceps muscle(relaxation)did not change much before and after the experiment. After the trial, only the thickness of muscles in the biceps brachii increased significantly, indicating that the Shakeweight is the most significant stimulus for the second iliac muscle.Muscle dimensions: Six months after the intervention of a Shakeweight,a paired sample T-test was performed on the intra-group.The results showed that the forearm(relaxation)p=0.000,the forearm(equal length)p=0.000,the upper arm(relaxation)p=0.015,the upper arm(Isometric)p=0.000,the difference was significant. It shows that the Shakeweight training is beneficial to the increase of the forearm and upper arm muscle dimensions. In the control group, the paired sample T test was performed. The results showed that the difference was not statistically significant. An independent sample T-test was performed on the muscle dimensions, and the forearm and upper arm muscle dimensions had significant increases.(2)Cardiopulmonary function. After a 6-month intervention in the Shakeweight test, the diastolic blood pressure in the experimental group decreased.Futhermore, the paired sample T-test showed that there was no statistically significant change in diastolic blood pressure before and after the experiment. An in-group paired T-test of vital capacity, heart rate, and systolic blood pressure showed no significant changes before and after the experiment. The independent sample T test before and after the experiment group and the control group showed that there was no statistically significant difference in each index.(3)Quality of life. After six months of intervention in the Shakeweight training, the scores in the physiological, psychological, social relations, and environmental fields of the experimental group increased. The increase rates were: 12.00%,10.18%,2.86%,and 4.65%.After the paired sample T test in the group, the scores in the physiological field and the psychological field increased significantly, while the scores in the social relationship field and the environment field increased, but there was no significant difference.this indicated that the Shakeweight training had a major impact on the physical and psychological aspects.A paired sample T-test on the total quality of life revealed that the total score of the quality of life increased significantly. In the control group, there was a slight increase in the score in the physiological field, and there was a small decrease in scores in other fields. After the intrapaired paired sample T test,it was found that there was no significant change in the scores of the quality of life in the control group. In the independent sample T test between the experimental group and the control group, the scores in the physiological field, the psychological field and the total score of the quality of life had significant changes.CONCLUSIONS:(1)Six-month Shakeweight training has a positive effect on the growth and maintenance of muscle strength in individuals with spinal cord injury.(2)The 6-month Shakeweight training has a certain effect on the heart function index of spinal cord injury, which means it is helpful to maintain the stability of blood pressure.(3)The 6-month Shakeweight training is conducive to the improvement of the quality of life, especially for the physical and psychological indicators.
