A Study On The World Class University Project In South Korea

With the development of knowledge economy and economic globalization,enhancing the competitive ability in higher education,promoting university’s international reputation and influence,building a world-class university,has become a national universal strategic choice.In background of pursuiting of excellence,South Korea has launched a series of higher education projects including BK21,NURI,WCU.WCU project,which is implemented by the government of President lee,aims to promoting the development of science and education.The main goal of WCU project is to attract a large number of overseas academic researchers with high level research ability,development a number of new technologies and new professional which is closely related to national future development and has wide development prospects,so as to build some universities to become world-class university.This article aims to discuse the system characteristics and implementation experience of the plan on the basis of implementation progress and other content materials,at the same time,evaluates the plan from the perspective of effectiveness and implementation issues.The results show that,WCU program has high,global,structural and dynamic characteristics;The project has flexible support,continuous and transparent funding;Funding key areas is the experience of the program.The plan has made considerable achievements including the introduction of talents,scientific research,resource sharing,however,it still has some problems.In the process of introducing top talent in our country,we should be based on national conditions,absorb the essence and experience of WCU program to build a world-class university in China.The study is divided into six parts.The first part is an introduction about the reason and significance of the selected topic.And then lists the researches at home and abroad about project.The second part is an introduction about the background of WCU project,from the international trend of constructing world-class university,the reality needs of participating in the international talent competition,the choice of dealing with excellent brain drain and the urgent demand of improving international influence of universities.The third part introduces the main goal,support type,system of WCU project.The fourth part summarizes the characteristics of WCU program.The fifth part summarizes the implementation experience of WCU project.The sixth part analysis the results of WCU project from personnel training,scientific research,and resource sharing.
