The master’s dissertation,is not only an important basis for the master’s degree certification,but also one of the important aspects in measuring the cultivation quality of college students.The literature review is an indispensable part of the dissertation.Hence,the literature review is directly related to the excellence of the thesis.Generally,previous study showed that authors mainly focus on several parts through reading massive relevant papers and exploring practical research,including the topic,methodology,introduction and discussion.However,there is relatively less research on literature review,and simple descriptions reveal ignoring its function as a dimension of scientific research ability.Therefore,regarding thesis as the pointcut,this dissertation attempts to study master’s ability to review literature and its development in education.Problem-Cause-Countermeasure is observed during the process of this study.Based on clarifying the connotation and extension of the literature review ability,this dissertation analyzes literature collection ability of master in education.Moreover,from perspectives of static analysis on text content and dynamic analysis on the process of completing the master dissertation,this research evaluates the current situation and tries to discover potential problems in order to summarize those deficiencies in master of pedagogy.After that,interviews are conducted to explore the underlying causes.Finally,this dissertation puts forward some suggestions on how to improve the ability of literature review in accordance with each step of dissertation.The survey found that the following problems in literature review:(i)The ability of literature retrieval is comparatively weak and its methods are quite limited in several common approaches.What’s more,foreign literature occupies a small part,which is one of typical reasons accounting for fewer citations,single citation type.(ii)The literature research ability is so weak causing too many tedious reports,rather than excellent comprehensive interviews.Besides,existing literature rarely involves the choice of methods.(iii)Lack of normative writing on literature review is an another major key.Interviews on the process of literature review exposed reasons for aforementioned problems.For masters,there is a deviation in their cognition of literature review,in addition,unskilled practice in literature retrieval,management tools are also neglected reasons,and so is the language expression ability.On the other hand,counselors should be responsible for inadequate targeted guidance while constructive proposals from members of the opening report are not sufficient enough to complete an outstanding dissertation.In teaching and management arrangements,schools or the university probably lack pertinent training courses,scientific dissertation management,etc.Finally,according to the actual situation of the previous research and the University of H,this dissertation endeavors to propose some future directions,consisting of making full use of the "Learning & Research" double subject,identifying responsibilities in the "Tutor & commissioner" double guidance and improving the system of the "Curriculum & Management" double support.Conclusions of the study may provide valuable reference for enhancing master’s ability of literature review in education. |
