The rapid development of global knowledge economy and the increasing competition of comprehensive national strength make the high-level engineering field become one of the core elements of national competitiveness.Therefore,it is an important reform measure of education of international higher engineering in recent years to set up a doctor of engineering degree,and train high level and applied engineering talents.However,compared to developed countries such as Britain and America engineering doctoral experience for many years,our country engineering pilot doctoral education is still in its infancy,the target orientation and cultivation mode also has some problems to be solved.Therefore,this study is based on the question of “cultivate what kind of doctor of engineering student " and " how to cultivate the graduate student”.This paper analyzes the origin and evolution of engineering talent cultivation from the historical perspective,and points out that the production of the engineering doctor is the result of the development trend of education.Since then,Respectively compared with the engineering PhD and engineering master's,further defined the Characteristics of engineering doctor,points out that doctor of engineering graduates have the intrinsic properties such as practicality,innovative and collaborative.Then,on the basis of introducing the development status and existing problems of Doctor of Engineering graduate education in the United States and Britain,Also introduced the general development status of Chinese engineering doctor,And based on the self-assessment report of China's 25 engineering doctoral programs and the coding analysis of some students,teachers and managers' interviews,etc.This paper points out that there are some problems such as the high target positioning,the convergence of the training process and the doctor of engineering,the difficulties and the insufficient external support.After that,through the analysis of the cultivation mode of the United States,Britain and China,it is believed that the British engineering doctoral training mode is more consistent with the Triple helix theory.And analyzed and discussed the common development dilemma of the three countries from the perspective of organizational sociology,pointed out that although the all three countries have some problems such as the cultivation of convergence and external support in different degrees,but the British doctor of engineering graduate education has the lightest performance and is able to take timely reforms.Finally,the main characteristics of the future development mode of Chinese engineering doctor are put forward in combination with the theory of knowledge production mode: the practice of talent training guide,interdisciplinary curriculum system,training in the process of participating,focus on quality control and social accountability.Based on the comparative analysis in foreign doctor of engineering and the domestic empirical research on the development of education,from the clear target orientation,improve the external support,development as a whole with the engineering PhD,implement process management and establish professional qualification connection and expand the autonomy of running schools and so on,to build the future development model of education for Chinese doctor of engineering.
