| Children with autism will encounter many challenges after entering primary school,and they also need a lot of supports.This study used a case-study approach to find out what difficulties they will encounter after they entering a primary school.At the same time,the researcher will act as a paraeducator to provide supports for the children in the inclusive environment.This study found:(1)Children can basically adapt school life with supports.However,there are some difficulties in following rules,developing relationship and studying.Speaking loudly is bothered to school leaders and teachers.The mather are mainly troubled by conflicts within children’s lack of learning ability,heavy learning tasks,and her lack of energy and time.The child is lack of social communication skills and it is difficult to communicate with peers.(2)The physical and cultural environment of the school is positively changed.For example,the teacher’s attitude changed from ignoring to supporting.However,the school cannot provide individualized support for the child.Courses,teaching methods,and evaluation methods are difficult to be changed.(3)The paraeducator can develop individualized education plans for the child,support the child instantly,promote teachers and peers to understand the children with autism,and strengthen home-school communication.The child-centered education concept and the ecological education plan are the important elements when paraeducator providing supports.(4)Family’s unconditional support,class teacher’s acceptance,and paraeducator’s supports are favorable factors for children adapting to school. |
