According to(Hazelkorn,2011),Higher Education Institutions Ranking implies a classification of universities based on outlined verifiable indicators.Hence,its use is made of a set of carefully defined variables and weights based objectives that allow comparisons among institutions or training programs that may reach national,regional or global dimensions.Present global higher educational milieu is typified by its preoccupation with rankings which have dominated the academic sphere for the last decade.The inter-connectedness that has resulted from globalization of Higher Education has facilitated synthesizing of Institutions offering higher education the world over.The coming together of countless institutions on a unified platform necessitates the logic of benchmarking.Jiangsu University's higher education system is a formidable presence,with respect to the numeric strength of the institution,as well as the mass of ethnographic population that it covers.This is all the more reason why a shortfall in the higher education system is a platitude that needs to be reversed.There however lies a significant distance between the value of comparative information available to lift Jiangsu University's global outlook and maintain world class standards.To set up the paper,the author first provides a basis and rationale of definition the “ranking regime,” or “higher education's accountability movement” Then;he considers two theoretical lenses that are frequently used,to explain the emergence,power,and consequences of rankings in present day higher education.His research direction focuses on the history of ranking of Higher Education Institutions(HEIs)through the establishment of exterior ranking systems of ARWU(2003),THEs(2004),QS(2004),and U.S.News.com(2014)and their correlations to both present and future Academic Ranking of Jiangsu University.He then narrows down to Jiangsu University's' outlook and the Gap between the University and the Top Ranked Global Institutions based on one of the ranking systems(U.S.News.com)through its indicators and academic disciplines.He explains how these measures improve the performance and ranking position of a Higher Education Institution.Looking at the international ranking systems in the world,and zeroing down to the top four globally reliable Systems,these are;THEs,QS,ARWU and U.S.News.com;the author puts out the theory of all departments' focus on generating quality research,high quality publications and internationalization to meet the demands of World University ranking by addressing the Gap in Jiangsu University and how to close itThe paper collates research on global rankings;reasons that explain Jiangsu University effective non-appearance in global rankings of higher education institutions;and critique of the Academic set up of the University in comparison with universities Ranked as World Class.The author navigates the study largely through descriptive and critical synthesis of precedential published research.
