Study On The Enlightenment Of Modern Private Universities For Contemporary Private Colleges And Universities

Private universities in modern China acts as a stabilizing force in facilitating the process of transition from higher education to contemporary universities.They have trained thousands of professional personnel for the development of old China.The higher achievements they have made in many fields have provide the valuable experience for the emergency and development of contemporary private higher education,which possess important position in the historical development of higher education in China.This paper combs the development of modern private universities by documentary research method,historical research method and case study method.Meanwhile,this paper gives a further analysis of the reasons for its development and social co-occurrence and sums up the experience,so as to provide reference for the construction and development of modern private universities.This paper first illustrates relevant studies on modern private universities and contemporary private higher education.The related articles are sorted out,and the main part of the research is carried out on this basis.The article mainly consists of four parts as follows.First of all,it outlines the development process of modern private universities,with 1927 as an important time node,before 1927 as private universities' germination and evolution stage.While from 1927 to 1949,it is as the norming and difficult development stage.Then,the contribution of modern private universities is summarized from two aspects: promoting talent cultivation and promoting social development.In the first aspect,a significant sign of modernization is the establishment of a legal society,represented by the private law education of Chao Yang College,which has trained tens of thousands of legal talents for China;Private universities break the traditional view of sports with the spirit of daring to be the first in the world,and cultivate a large number of outstanding athletes,sports teachers and referees;Moreover,private universities introduced the advanced education concepts and established a number of prestigious fine arts colleges headed by the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts Training School.As for the second aspect,the modern private universities promoted the development of democratic politics,attached importance to science and technology,applied scientific knowledge to explode superstitions,inspired people's democratic consciousness,and promoted the development of the civil rights movement.Besides,private universities actively promoted the development of industry and citizen stratum,which has cultivated many applied talents for the modern society.Then,it analyzes the three main reasons why private universities in modern age have achieved good development under the background “Saving the Nation through Education”.The specific illustrations as listed: First,various financing channels.Unlike public schools,private universities need to constantly broaden their education funds source,forming three main school-running models: student payment,government subsidy and social donation.Second,headmasters' promotion of establishing schools.Private universities' stability and development profits from the headmasters' surprising perseverance and indomitable spirit,as well as their dedication to long-term school governance.The explanation of Zhang Boling' educational thought-“Indigenization” shows that the headmasters of the modern private universities actively explore a running school education philosophy which is close to Chinese social reality.Third,the effective management system including internal and external management.Private universities' external management mainly depends on government legislation to achieve its more standardized development.The government strictly implements the inspection system in private universities to supervise their implementation of educational laws and regulations.In contrast to external management,the internal management of private universities is mainly through its special Board of Director system.Then,After more than 40 years of development,our private universities have achieved successes,but there are also shortcomings.This chapter mainly focuses on the development and existing problems of contemporary private universities.China's private colleges and universities flexible professional settings and efficient operation and management mechanism.The problems in private universities are mainly focused on the lack of school management,the difficulty of raising funds for private schools,the weakness of teachers,and the unclear property rights of schools.Finally,this paper presents the implications of modern private universities for contemporary private higher education.First,the government should elaborate the laws and regulations for contemporary private higher learning institutions' administration.At the same time,further thinking of the mechanism of evaluation,assessment and withdrawal is still in need;Second,they should broaden financing channels,strengthen school-enterprise cooperation and explore joint-running-school model;And the government should clarify the ownership of property rights and strengthen the standardization of enterprises' investment in private universities;Third,they should pay more attention to the construction of principal system from several aspects,such as clearly determining the schoolmasters right,optimization the salary system,the establishment of principal renewal mechanism should etc..Last,they should cultivate our own strong teaching staff,meanwhile,they are expected to persist in standardizing administration and run schools according to laws to realize the standardization of private schools' management.
