A Study On The Parenting Conflicts Between Parents And Grandparents For Preschool Children

With the development of society and quickening pace of life,more and more families have to face the problem of intergenerational upbringing.As a result of the changes of concepts caused by the social transformation,the conflicts between Parents and Grandparents for preschool children take place constantly.In this paper,through the study on the parenting conflicts between Parents and Grandparents for preschool children,the aim is to find out the concrete contents of the conflicts,understand the characteristics of the conflicts,analyze the causes of the conflicts,put forward some suggestions for alleviating the conflicts,coordinate the relationship between two generations,improve the qualities of family education,and promote children's healthy development.In this research,we adopt the qualitative research method.And in the process of the research,30 Parents and Grandparents are selected to interview,based on the educational background,occupation and social experience between Parents and Grandparents,and the number,age of children.In addition,a family who has the familiar experiences is selected to observe.It is found that the main conflicts focus on the following aspects,that is,the cultivation of children's living habits and abilities,the cultivation of interpersonal communication and social adaptation,and children's learning plans.It also presents three main characteristics: the universality and objective existence,the resolvability and the period of conflict content.Through the research,it is found that the main reasons of the conflicts between Parents and Grandparents are the following five aspects: 1.the conflicts deriving from the social experienced differences between Parents and Grandparents;2.the conflicts deriving from the Parenting conceptual differences between Parents and Grandparents;3.the conflicts deriving from the poor communication between Parents and Grandparents;4.the conflicts deriving from the improper distribution of power between Parents and Grandparents;5.the conflicts deriving from the unclear responsibilities between Parents and Grandparents.In order to relieve these conflicts,Parents should try to understand the different educational concepts and ways of Grandparents,respect their points of view,give thanks to their hard work,communicate with them actively,and truly shoulder the responsibility of raising children.Grandparents should put themselves in the right position,support Parents' decisions,trust their abilities,learn scientific parenting methods,adapt to the educational mode of Parents,be a good adviser.Moreover,Grandparents should give back the children to their parents,and not seize the power of education.At the same time,the society and schools should support and help families with preprimary children more,so as to create an educational network combining three sides,improve the quality of family education.
