With the continuous advancement of science and technology and the rapid development of social economy, people are facing increasing pressure.Under the turning point of the transformation of students to social personnel, college students face the dual pressures of academics and employment. The mental health problems of college students have aroused widespread concern in society.Orienteering,as an emerging sport,is different from traditional sports. It can only be carried out on a fixed venue.Orienteering moves the body to a wild environment such as parks and forests.Orienteering is a project with equal emphasis on both physical and intelligent. In addition to the characteristics of sports, athleticism, and endurance of general projects,it also has strong personal experience, fun and mass adaptability, and the variability of the venue environment. The project's practicality, strategic nature and other attributes are also very prominent. The development of orienteering is not only conducive to people's physical fitness, but also conducive to moral education, improve mental health and promote the overall development of physical and mental health. The Ministry of Education has also issued documents several times to promote the development of orienteering in universities.Based on the summary of research status at home and abroad, this paper uses research methods such as literature data, mathematical statistics and experimental methods. In this experiment, students from the Nanjing Institute of Physical Education were selected as subjects, and a total of 60 physical education students were selected. The experiment takes the exercise intensity as the independent variable, and divides the intensity into three levels of large, medium and small with the heart rate indicator. The students are divided into three groups for teaching. The teaching contents of the three groups of students are the same, using the same teaching progress and teaching plans, only the intensity of exercise in the teaching process is different, and a 12-week teaching experiment is carried out.In this study, the mental health scale of SCL-90 was used to test and analyze the mental health of the three groups before and after the experiment. The SPSS statistical software was used for analysis.Analyze the impact of 12-week directional exercise teaching on students' mental health. The experimental results show that different intensity of directional exercise teaching can promote the mental health of college students to a certain extent. The small intensity has a significant effect on the factor of somatization. It has a certain influence on the two factors of terror and psychosis, and has little effect on other factors. The medium intensity has a significant influence on the mental health of students.Seven factors, such as depression and hostility, have very significant effects. The high intensity has obvious effects on three factors: interpersonal relationship, hostility and paranoia, but has no obvious effect on obsessive-compulsive symptoms and anxiety. In general, moderate intensity has the best effect on all dimensions of psychology, followed by high intensity, and the effect of small intensity is the least significant.
