Peer bullying is a kind of behavior that takes place among students inside or outside the campus,one party(an individual or a group)intentionally or maliciously bullies or humiliates another party(an individual or group)by means of body,language and network once or many times,causing physical injury,property loss or mental damage to the other party(an individual or group).This study will investigate peer bullying among rural middle school off-campus boarders from six aspects: the situation of the victims of the bullying,the coping style of the victims,the attitude and behavior of teachers,students and parents towards bullying,the bullying situation of the bullies,the characteristics of the victims and bullies.This paper aims to systematically study the current situation and influencing factors of peer bullying among rural middle school off-campus boarders,analyze its characteristics and the reasons for bullies to implement bullying,and propose countermeasures to the problem of peer bullying among rural middle school external boarders.This study used two survey methods,questionnaire and interviews.In the method of questionnaire,the author designed the rural middle school off-campus boarders bullying questionnaire,chose the one to four grades students as the object of investigation from four rural middle school which don't have the student dormitory,distributed 442 questionnaires totally and 409 effective questionnaires were taken back,questionnaire recycling effective rate was 91%.In the interview method,the author interviewed 4 victims,3 bystanders,bullies and 3 teachers.This study found the following ten characteristics of peer bullying among rural middle school off-campus boarders: first,nearly 60% of rural middle school off-campus boarders suffered from peer bullying within six months.Second,verbal bullying and relationship bullying are the main types of bullying suffered by rural middle school boarders.Third,poor communication skill constitutes the main reason for being bullied.Fourth,boys are more likely than girls to suffer physical bullying and cyberbullying,and there is no significant difference between boys and girls in relationship bullying.Fifth,The incidence of peer bullying was higher in grade two grade three among rural middle school boarders.Sixth,victims generally believe that telling teachers and parents doesn't work and they tend to seek out peers to solve problems.Seventh,poor grades and antisocial tendencies are typical characteristics of bullies.Eighth,as grade increases,bystanders become more apathetic,and class cadres and communist youth league members do not play a role in resisting bullying.Ninth,the rural middle school boarders peer bullying will turn to the violence of incident.The reasons for bullying include the following aspects: first,bullies want to show their strength.Second,bullies are too self-centered and lack empathy.Third,bullies are forced by the herd mentality,involved in bullying passively.Fourth,bullies want vent their resentment.Fifth,bullies want get things for themselves.This study puts forward countermeasures to deal with the peer bullying of rural middle school off-campus boarders which mainly from the school perspective: first,strengthen the prevention of rural middle school off-campus boarders.Second,develop post-bullying processes.Third,give full play to the role of class cadres,communist youth league members,mobilize all students to resist peer bullying.Fourth,strengthen the communication and cooperation between families and schools to deal with peer bullying of rural middle school off-campus boarders.
