Factors Influencing Cross-cultural Adaptation Of International Students In China

Recently,with the development of China's economy and its enhancement of international influence,the number of international students who came to China has grown rapidly.Therefore,this group in China has gradually become the focus of research.The cross-cultural adaptation of international students is influenced by many factors.To find out these factors may help to make foreign students get better adaptation.Based on interview materials,this paper extracts the factors through the coding method which originated from the grounded theory,and aims to find how factors work on the cross-cultural adaptation of foreign students.Interview materials of 11 cases were analyzed,and the author got four dimensions including academic,living environment,social environment and psychological adaptation,as well as 15 factors and 2 results.The conclusions of this paper are as follows:Motivation of coming to China influences the academic adaption;the extraversion and openness positively influence the social environmental adaptation;cross-cultural experience also has a positive impact on social eenvironmental adaptation;self-debugging has an impact on psychological adaptation.Chinese language ability and language support influence the academic adaptation and social environmental adaptation;cultural evaluation and cultural differences as a pair of interactive factors impacts acadeemic,living environmental adaptation,social environmental adaptation;social support choice and social support,as a pair of interactive factors,have an impact on academic adaptation,social environmental adaptation,psychological adaptation,study ability and school arrangement have an impact on academic adaptation,attitude judgment and Chinese attitude as a bunch of interactive factors have an impact on social environmental adaptation.As a result of these factors,international students got individual development and growth both mentally and physically,as well as changes in alternative attitudes towards their own country culture and the host country culture.
