In recent years, with the deepening of mathematics curriculum reform, the mathematical community has been paying more and more attention to mathematics culture.Among them, the history of mathematics as an important part of mathematics culture, more scholars are studying its educational value in mathematics textbooks and its compilation in textbooks.Based on examples of the PEP and the BNUP of primary mathematics textbooks, adopting methods of literature analysis, text analysis and comparative analysis, this paper studies the contents of mathematical history,in which such dimensions are compared and researched,as its quantity, knowledge field, column distribution, content classification, application mode, different grade stage and referred country.According to this study, the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)In terms of quantity, the subjects of the contents of mathematical history in the two editions are similar. But a small number of contents of the mathematical history are not related to each other in the two editions, even the style of presentation and the sequence of distribution in textbooks. What' s more, the contents of the mathematical history in the PEP edition are more than those in the BNUP.(2)In terms of knowledge field, there is no significant difference between the two editions. The distributions of the mathematical history in the four knowledge fields are obviously uneven, which are rarely integrated into the two knowledge fields of statistics and probability, synthesis and practice, but focus more on number and algebra, with the most times of appearance.(3)In terms of column distribution, there are significant differences between the two editions of textbooks. The mathematical history in the textbooks of PEP and the textbooks of BNUP both are mainly distributed in the columns of reading materials, while the number of the mathematical history in the textbooks of BNUP is more than that in the textbooks of PEP,and so is the proportion.(4)In terms of content classification, the two editions of textbooks are significantly different. Both the PEP and the BNUP textbooks focus on the idea and concept, which is one type of the content of mathematical history. However, themathematical history of the textbooks of PEP has a much larger proportion of tools and symbol types than BNUP.(5)There are obvious differences between the two editions of textbooks in the way of application. The additive mathematical history is heavily weighted in both editions. The proportion of compliant and reconfigurable modes of application is very low,but these five application methods all appear in the content of mathematical history of the PEP textbooks, while that in BNUP version has no embellishment.(6)There are significant differences between the two editions in different grades. The amount of mathematical history in textbooks varies greatly from grade to grade. For PEP version,in the distribution of the two sections, the proportion of the mathematical history in the second section is more than twice that in the first section.(7)In terms of the referred country, compared with BNUP,the content of the mathematical history in the PEP covers a wider range of countries and a larger number of countries.China is the country where the two editions appear most frequently. From the perspective of the distribution of mathematical history at home and abroad, the two editions of textbooks account for about the same proportion, and the difference is not obvious. On the basis of the conclusions of this study, the following suggestions are given:balance the distribution of the content of mathematical history;strengthen the integration of the content of mathematical history and teaching knowledge;pay attention to the practicality and applicability of the content of mathematical history;attach importance to implicit way to integrate the content of mathematical history.
