A Research On The Intergenerational Support Of Migrant Workers To Young Children

The large-scale migration of migrant workers leads to the spatial differentiation of their children staying or leaving.Whether left behind or moved on,because of the pressure of migrant workers' livelihood,they have no time to take care of their children,and reduce the support for the intergenerational support of the children,such as the frequency of contact and the exchange of emotions.The problem of “decline in academic achievement,weariness of learning,skipping”,“character isolation”,“moral vacuum” and so on,is becoming more and more serious for the young children of migrant workers.However,due to the fact that there is a certain degree of value the male child only in migrant workers,the thinking and behavior in dealing with children's problems will be affected by gender.At present,many empirical studies only reveal the relationship between gender and intergenerational support in a single group.More attention is paid to the intergenerational relationship of supporting the elderly.There is a lack of research on the influence of migrant workers on the intergenerational support of underage children.Therefore,based on the gender perspective(the gender perspective of migrant workers,the gender perspective of the last child),this paper studies the influence mechanism of intergenerational support for migrant workers' young children,which puts up public policy recommendations to promote the intergenerational relations of migrant workers.This dissertation based on the 2014 survey data about the survival and development of rural floating population,from the perspective of gender,makes a systematic study on the intergenerational support of migrant workers' young children.Through using the OLS regression model and ordinal regression model,reveal the internal relationship of the children's characteristics,family characteristics with intergenerational support of migrant workers' young children,and analyze the overall status and influence mechanism of intergenerational support.It is of great practical significance and theoretical value to promote the family intergenerational support of migrant workers and the sustainable livelihoods of migrant workers.The possible innovations of this study are summarized as follows:Firstly,taking the young children of migrant workers(the left behind children and the children who are on the move)as the research object and taking intergenerational support for the migrant workers' young childrenas the research content,it not only extends the research object ofintergenerational support,but also deepens the research on the intergenerational relations of migrant workers.The research content of the intergenerational support of migrant workers is mostly in the old age,Moreover,there are few studies on intergenerational support between parents and children,and there are few studies on intergenerational support for the left behind children and the children who are on the move.This paper studies the intergenerational support of underage children of migrant workers,and provides a realistic basis for solving the problem of intergenerational support.Secondly,based on the gender perspective of migrant workers and children,and combining the characteristics of the three generations of the family,the analysis framework of the influence of family characteristics and children's characteristics on the intergenerational support of migrant workers and young children is constructed.It further improves the research perspective of migrant workers' intergenerational support and its influencing mechanism.The intergenerational support of parents may influence the intergenerational relationship,which is mainly influenced by the gender of parents and children.Through the gender perspective of migrant workers and the gender perspective of children,the influence mechanism of migrant workers on the intergenerational support of young children under different sex has been explored,which enriches the theoretical framework of the study of intergenerational relations.Thirdly,it reveals the influence mechanism of migrant workers' economic support of migrant workers from a gender perspective.From the gender perspective of migrant workers,the grandparenting and the young children's migration status do not affect the economic support of the migrant workers.Whether male or female,children's educational decision-making power has a positive impact on economic support.That is,husband's decision is beneficial to peasant workers' economic support for their young children.The health level of children only plays a role in men,that is,the better the children's health,the less conducive to the economic support of male migrant workers to their children.In the last child gender perspective,the grandparenting and children's health did not affect the economic support of migrant workers.Whether the last child is a boy's migrant worker or the last child is a girl's migrant worker,the influence of the child's educational decision on the economic support is positive,that is,the husband's decision is beneficial to the economic support of the children.Children migration is not conducive to migrant workers' financial support for the last child as a boy.A contrast between the last child and the first child,there is no parity difference between the young children's education decision-making and child health level.That is,there is no significant difference in the economic support between the last child and the first child.The grandparenting is conducive to the last child's economic support.there is a child difference in the situation of children's migration.In the case of “the last child is moved and the first child does not move” and “the last child and the first child are all moved”,the migrant workerstend to support the last child.The research results are of great theoretical value for improving the economic support of migrant workers to underage children and promoting the family relationship of migrant workers.Fourthly,it reveals the influence mechanism of emotional support of migrant workers from a gender perspective.From the gender perspective of migrant workers,The grandparenting and migrant workers has no significant effect on the emotional support of young children.The decision-making power of children's education only plays a role for men.That is,relative to the wife's decision,the husband's decision and joint discussion are not conducive to the emotional support of the male migrant workers to the young children.There is a significant effect on the children's health and their children's movement.That is,whether male migrant workers or female migrant workers,children with good health are more likely to get emotional support from migrant workers than children with poor health.Migrant children are more likely to get emotional support from migrant workers than those who do not.In the last child gender perspective,grandparents' support for grandchildren did not affect emotional support.The decision making power of children's education has a significant impact on the last child's female migrant workers,that is,husbands decide to favor migrant workers' emotional support for the last child.For children's health,their children's health level is generally less than that of poor health.Migrant children are more likely to get emotional support than migrant workers.There was no parity difference between raising the grandchildren and the health of the last child compared with the first child.Children's educational decision-making power is different from children.That is,compared with the wife's decision,common deliberation is not conducive to the emotional support of migrant workers to the last child.Compared with “the last child did not move,and the first child to move”.“When the last child moved along and the first child did not move” or “the last child and the first child all moved along”,the emotional support of migrant workers was more inclined to the last child and there was child difference.The findings reinforce communication between migrant workers and their children and it has guiding significance to promote its emotional support.
