This paper takes F City Children's Welfare Institute as a practical platform,takes the mentally handicapped children in the hospital as the research object,and introduces the basic needs of mentally handicapped children from three levels:physical,psychological,and social,and uses literature research methods,observation methods,and interview methods.The mentally handicapped children themselves,the management problems of the welfare institutions and the factors of the assessors elaborated the data collection dilemma in the evaluation of the mentally handicapped children in the hospital,including:the lack of speech ability of the mentally handicapped children and the limitation of cognitive development;data management in the hospital Inadequate assessment mechanisms;lack of professional skills of staff,frequent mobility,and tagging of mentally handicapped children.To explore the solution to the dilemma and optimize data collection methods,the author introduced the application of conventional data collection methods(observation and interview methods)and game methods and painting methods in the collection of assessment data for mentally handicapped children.Finally,the author proposes a solution to the problem of collecting data from service personnel around mentally handicapped children.Including the improvement of the work record system for the rearing staff,multiple methods are used to collect information from the managerial level,and through the addition of volunteers' assessment of the main care of children.
