NBA Coach Steve Kerr's Leadership Study

In the 2014-2015 season,Steve Kerr became the head coach of the NBA Golden State Warriors.He led the team won three championships in the following four years.As the leader of the championship team,Steve Kerr won the welcome and respect of the team members and colleagues with his outstanding leadership,and influenced his team with his leadership,changed the players and the team.The purpose of this paper is to analyze how Steve Kerr played different leadership with former head coach Mark Jackson in his first season,leading the Golden State Warriors to a good record.At the same time,Steve Kerr 's leadership is used as a reference to provide guidance for the promotion of leadership to the majority of basketball coaches.This paper mainly uses the case analysis method to analyze the leadership of Steve Kerr with the leadership five-force model.From the perspective of the leadership five-force model,this paper divides Steve Kerr 's leadership into future force,charisma,influence,control,and determination.This paper analyzes relevant videos,interviews,and data to explore Steve Kerr's leadership.After analysis,the paper draws the following conclusions:Firstly,the charisma is the foundation of Steve Kerr 's leadership.The rich life experience is the most relevant to the five forces of Steve Kerr 's leadership,and it is an important source of Steve Kerr 's leadership.Rich life experience has shaped Steve Kerr 's personality and values,honing Kerr 's willpower and helping Kerr gain confidence.Years of professional player experience,commentators and general manager of the team experience helped Steve Kerr learn large amount of professional knowledge,communication and incentive skill,which help Kerr form his unique future force,control,Influence and determination.Secondly,Steve Kerr's leadership is mainly applied to the technical and culture level of the team.At the technical level of the team,Steve Kerr's future force and determination helped the team to constantly adjust the team strategy during the long season,build the core competence of the team,form the competitive advantage,and lead the NBA's trend.At the team culture level,Steve Kerr's influence and control have created unique values for the Warriors,creating a good locker room atmosphere,maintaining the emotions between players and forming the team culture of Golden State Warriors,producing a good "chemical reaction" in the games.The improvement of the team's record is the result of the role of Steve Kerr's leadership in both technical and cultural levels.Thirdly,the boundaries of Steve Kerr's leadership five-force branches,sometimes are not obvious.For example,“changing the player's position and playing style,improving the player's efficiency and realizing the player's value” can be expressed in the future force,which adjusted the team's strategy,formed the core ability,led the NBA trend;it can also be expressed in the influence,which helped Kerr find players' need so that he can motivate them;it can also be expressed in the control,which built team's values.It can be seen that the various branches of Steve Kerr's leadership are interactive,which also proves that the branches of leadership are not developed separately,but complement each other,and the combined effect of the five forces forms a complete leadership.
