STEAM refers to Science,Technology,Engineering,Arts and Mathematics.STEAM Education originated from a report published in 1986 by the National Science Council of the United States entitled “Undergraduate Science,Mathematics and Engineering Educating”.It is the first time that a programmatic proposal,STEM Education Integration Strategy,has been issued.After the practice and research,the“A(arts)” was supplemented to form the STEAM education,which has played a significant role in increasing the proportion of technology talents in the world and enhancing the national competitiveness of the United States in education.The STEAM is a concept that emphasizes practical and super-disciplinary education.The current education of single-disciplinary skills may not cultivate the comprehensive talents for the future.The construction of technological human resources and capabilities of China is backward.The system of science and engineering education is not yet established.Mathematics and physics appear in the classes of middle schools,while the engineering and technical education is still absent.Eighth-grade students have just officially learned physics.Thus,it is particularly important to cultivate students' learning interest in the enlightenment stage,guiding them to solve problems with critical and creative thinking skills,improve their scientific literacy and achieve teaching goals.It is found that the teaching objectives of STEAM education are exactly the same as those of physics curriculums in China,according to the study of science education programs of K12 schools and the National Science Education Standards of the United States.It should be noted that the integration of disciplines,the entity responsibility and the comprehensive quality of students are emphasized in STEAM education.The integration of STEAM education concept in the physics teaching can improve students' learning interest and the ability to answer questions.Moreover,it is conductive to the cultivation of technological and innovative talents in the country,strengthening the competitiveness of the country in the world.The author designed and practiced the teaching contents of eighth-grade physics in combination with the STEAM education concept.She taught eighth-grade physics for three classes,mainly accomplishing the following work:1.The literature research of the STEAM education research and its application in physics teaching(STEAM discipline expansion course)was carried out.2.The physics teaching design specification under the STEAM education concept(suitable for local teaching design)and the examples in chapters was provided.3.It is concluded that the STEAM education concept is suitable for China,according to the comparative analysis of the practical teaching results on the basis of the teaching design of STEAM education concept.4.The relevant teaching strategies are proposed from the practical research.
