Research On Population Changes And Economic Development In The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Countries

Since the establishment of the Lancang-Mekong cooperation in 2016,the six countries have coordinated development in the three pillars of political security,economic and sustainable development,social and humanities.In the process,countries have carried out in-depth cooperation in various fields and achieved remarkable results.The global economic growth rate has slowed down and the economic structure has been adjusted,leading to different degree of changes in the population system.These changes in the population,economic and social environment directly affect the development of regional cooperation,so that studying the population and economic development in the Lancang-Mekong cooperation countries is very important for continuing to deepen bilateral multilateral cooperation,enhance political mutual trust,and strengthen economic and trade cooperation.The population is an essential element of economic and social development,and human activities have an impact on social production.Demographic changes,including natural changes,social changes,and migration changes,directly or indirectly affect the economic development of a region or country,so economic activities should adapt to the regular patterns of population change and development.At the same time,the level of economic development of a region or country affects the formulation and implementation of a population development strategy,which determines the extent and speed of the improvement of population development.Moreover,the adjustment of economic activities to a certain extent also restricts the direction and speed of population changes.Based on the perspective of population economics research,first of all,this study analyzes the demographic changes and economic development of the Lancang-Mekong cooperative countries.Secondly,according to the relevant data of the World Bank,this study uses the entropy method to construct a population and economic development evaluation index system,and then uses two major indicators including the coupling degree of population and economic development and population efficiency,which can comprehensively compare the population and economic development level of the Lancang-Mekong cooperative countries.Finally,based on the analysis and research,this study summarizes the structural characteristics of population and economic development in the Lancang-Mekong cooperative countries.The study believes that the improvement of population quality has gradually become a key factor affecting population and economic development;changes in the age structure of the population are important factors affecting economic development;the employment situation of the population is closely related to economic development;the impact of changes in population migration on regional economic development has not yet been released.At the same time,there is a difference in the degree of coordination between population and economy in various countries,and population efficiency needs to be improved.In view of the practical problems of population and economic development in the region,this study proposes a feasible path to promote population and economic development in the Lancang-Mekong cooperative countries:Promote the coordinated development of population and economy,and achieve continuous improvement of population efficiency;Improve the quality of population development,and make full use of the demographic dividend period;Adapt to structural changes in the population and economic system,and actively respond to problems and challenges;adjust the structure of import and export trade,and strengthen regional economic and trade cooperation;Use Internet technology and opportunities for the development of the Internet of Things industry to promote regional cooperation in various fields;Integrate regional development resources and improve urbanization;Continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation in the field of water resources;Jointly promote the construction of the "3+5" cooperation framework,and build a economic development zone in the Lancang-Mekong river,etc.
