Summarization ability is a basic and necessary skill that students should possess in their language learning journey.It is also a fundamental problem that language teachers have been paying close attention to.However,in the current education system,the inability of the explanatory texts to fully play its role in cultivating such ability is one of the most critical issues that teachers and students are facing.Therefore,in view of such problems,this essay aim to suggest practical cultivating strategies based on the current version of Chinese text books and previous studies,using comparative analysis method,questionnaire survey method and other research methods.The essay mainly studies summarization ability for explanatory texts of the junior high school students from four aspects.This essay starts with an introduction,which mainly focus on explaining the research object,research origin,research status,research significance and research methods.Secondly,we analyze the explanatory texts in the textbooks edited by the Ministry of Education and the PEP version of junior high school in terms of quantities and categories.Then we examine the presentation of summarizing exercises in after-lesson practices and high school entrance examinations.Thirdly,we examine the existing problems for cultivating summarization ability for explanatory texts from both students and teachers perspectives through a survey.Problems faced by students include lack of initiatives and motivation,shallow understanding of generalization and succinct language,and logical confusion.Teachers on the other hand,are not using multiple teaching methods for explanatory texts.Their concepts of summarizing ability is also lack of variation and unattractive and their teaching methods for combination of speaking and writing in explanatory texts is weak as well.Finally,we put forward the cultivation strategies from the perspective of student learning,teacher teaching and teacher-student cooperation,aiming at improving the students' ability to summarize the explanatory texts.Students should master the reading methods of the explanatory text,actively obtain the information in the explanatory text;exercise their own analyzing and comprehensive ability to improve their thinking process;appreciate the conciseness and order of the language being used in explanatory essays to improve their own language summarization ability.Teachers should use multiple methods to cultivate students' reading and summarizing ability,pay attention to fundamental teaching and develop teaching content;use reasonable explanation in order to facilitate and complete students' thinking process;cultivate students' language generalization ability through combination of speaking and writing.Teacher-student cooperation should also be improved through organizing role-playing activities;focusing on cutting-edge technology products;and by watching documentaries,allow students to appreciate the commentary language.
