As a course practice system, the elective course system has become a booster for accelerating the process of high school education. At present, countries?regions? around the world have formed unique elective course systems in the practice of education in light of the current situation of education development.Under the dual constraints of traditional culture and education system, the elective course system has experienced ups and downs in the development of secondary schools in the Mainland.Based on the comparative analysis of the implementation status of the elective course system in the Mainland and Hong Kong high schools, this study attempts to find useful experience in the implementation of the elective course system in Hong Kong High Schools,in order to provide a constructive reference for the cracking of the problems in the implementation of the elective course system in the Mainland.Based on the historical review of the development of elective courses in the Mainland and Hong Kong high schools, this study provides an in-depth analysis of the curriculum setting system and current situation of the elective courses in the high schools of the two places and the typical cases of the implementation of the elective courses in the high schools in the two places,Compares the advantages and disadvantages of the implementation of the elective course system in the high schools of the two places, emphasizes the analysis of the implementation effect of the elective course system in Hong Kong.Based on the above research contents,in the elective course setting, the high school elective courses in the Mainland focus on the diversification of the curriculum system at the micro level, the academic content of the course and the broad perspective of the curriculum;Hong Kong high school elective courses tend to grasp the coherence between different courses, the operability of curriculum implementation and the value trend of the curriculum from a macro perspective. In particular, the design of Hong Kong high school elective courses focuses on the effective connection with university courses. In terms of the implementation of theelective course system, some schools in the Mainland have formed elective course systems that conform to the school's characteristic construction by constructing school-based elective courses, exploring new paths for class-selecting classes, and innovativing elective course teaching management system.Affected by various internal and external factors, the implementation of elective courses in high schools in different regions of the Mainland is quite different. There are common problems in the implementation of the curriculum, such as limited teacher resources, insufficient teaching time, and difficulty in teaching management.Heterogeneity problems such as regional cultural differences, different student knowledge bases, and difficulty in unifying parents' awareness of ideas. The implementation of elective courses in Hong Kong's high schools is coordinated by the Hong Kong Curriculum Development Council, the HKEAA and various Colleges and universities. In the process,we use Situational teaching with modern teaching media, citing scientific and efficient mechanisms for school-based assessment, helping schools cope with the lack of resources by providing the High School Curriculum Support Grant.Hong Kong High Schools have established an elective course system with the characteristics of participation in diversification, scientific implementation of curriculum, standardization of curriculum evaluation and improvement of guarantee mechanism. On the whole, the high schools of the two places have formed unique elective course systems in the process of exploring the development of elective courses. However, elective course system and its guarantee mechanism of the high school elective course in Hong Kong are more complete than the high schools in the Mainland.
