Since the 20 th century, the invasion of Western civilization and the gradual disintegration of feudal society had shocked the Chinese rural society. On the one hand, the backward education level, the bail-out economic situation, and the ruined social atmosphere had hindered the further development of the countryside. On the other hand, the loss of rural talents had made rural development unprotected. In the face of the rural society in crisis,a group of enlightened intellectuals recognized the importance of rural construction. They used various methods to promote rural development.Among them, rural education of civil organizations was one of its ways. The development of civil organizations had reached a considerable scale in the Qing Dynasty. The organization activities were very active. The activities covered various fields of economy, education, culture and other fields, and played a role in various fields. They cooperated with official organizations to promote social development.By the time of the Republic of China, the number of non-governmental organizations was still on the rise. The non-governmental organizations that flourished in modern times, whether they are peasant associations, educational associations,or other industry organizations, were not only limited to industry activities and charitable activities.Supporting agricultural development, rural education, and promoting rural construction were also important activities..Based on this, the paper mainly discusses the following four aspects.First, the paper describes the link between civil society organizations and rural construction. In the case that official organizations had not fully implemented their effectiveness, various industries had established civil organizations for their own development.Civil society organizations could better coordinate with the official organizations for social management, save the government resources for management, improve administrative efficiency, and thus obtain the official authorization of the government. With the support of the government, civil society organizations had further developed their functions and participated in rural construction.Secondly, the paper makes a detailed discussion on the educational activities carried out by the Agricultural Association. The peasant association was established to solve rural problems and rebuild rural order. Its purpose was to develop agriculture and increase agricultural productivity. In the face of the lack of cultural education, low moral standards, and conservative traditional traditions,to develop agriculture,we must first develop rural education and break the feudal ideology. Therefore, the peasant association had put a lot of practice into rural education for the development of agriculture.Thirdly, the paper elaborates on the rural education activities carried out by the Education Association. The Education Association was a non-governmental organization established for modern new intellectuals and educators to popularize new forms of education.Conducting educational speeches in rural areas, establishing educational newspapers and periodicals to promote new-style education, breaking the conservative thinking of rural farmers and recognizing new-style education was the preliminary work of rural education;establishing new-style schools and urging farmers to accept new-style education was their main work; The establishment of public learning places in the society, the organization of various lectures and research conferences was the guarantee for the smooth implementation of rural education activities. At the same time, rural ethics was also an important educational goal. Finally, the paper summarizes the concrete manifestations of modern civil organizations in rural education. It is embodied in the following three aspects:(1)disseminating new knowledge and encouraging schools to run schools;(2)investigating and recording the general situation of rural education and proposing educational proposals;(3)making up for the inadequacy of official education and enriching the form of education. The various educational activities carried out by civil organizations to achieve rural construction had promoted the reconstruction of rural society.
