Knowledge spillover is an important concept of endogenous economic growth theory interpretation and innovation. With the rapid development of the knowledge economy era in the 21 st century, the role of science and technology development in contemporary social economic growth is becoming more and more important.University knowledge spillover is an important source of technological innovation and an important factor in promoting China's industrial structure upgrading and accelerating economic growth.Total factor productivity is the only source of economic growth. This paper uses the panel data of 27 provinces and cities nationwide from 2007 to 2016 to construct a spatial econometric model based on total factor productivity research on the role of university knowledge spillovers on China's economic growth. The empirical research finds that there is spatial dependence on economic growth among provinces in China. The university knowledge spillover has a significant role in promoting China's economic growth. The direct, indirect and total effects of various factors on China's economic growth are as follows:From the perspective of total effect, the spillover of university knowledge in various provinces and cities in China has a significant positive effect on economic growth;from the direct and indirect effects, the number of patents granted by local universities, the number of university technology contracts transferred, and the number of university graduates will not Promote local economic growth, but the number of university patent grants, the number of university technology contracts transferred, and the number of university graduates in neighboring regions will have a positive effect on economic development. The number of university patent grants can have a positive impact on economic growth through total factor productivity;the number of university technology contract transfers and the number of university graduates through the total factor productivity have a negative impact on economic growth. The study found that not all patent licenses promote economic growth.According to the research results, relevant policy recommendations are proposed: From the government level, the government should establish a sound intellectual property protection system and actively promote patent incentive measures. From the university level, the university and the government actively cooperate to improve the commercialization process from technology to product;cultivate more high-quality talents. From the perspective of talents,we must not only improve the number of talents, but also improve the quality of talents, and strive to improve the level of talents in the region, thus promoting China's technological innovation.
