After the founding of New China,the implementation of professional and technical education has become the main task of higher education institutions because of the needs of national construction services.However,under the premise that China’s productivity development level has continuously moved to a new level,the law of education is quietly changing,and traditional professional education continues to reveal new problems.As Herbart,the father of modern education,said,"The highest purpose of education should be the improvement of morality and character." Mr.Cai Yuanpei was the president of Beijing University and the founder of modern Chinese higher education.His educational thoughts and practical achievements are fruitful,which not only have far-reaching influence on the development of modern higher education,but also have important reference significance for the current deepening of education reform and comprehensive promotion of quality education.He not only criticizes the inheritance of the traditional Chinese Confucian "humanity" theory,but also draws on the essence of Western humanism.It is also the wisdom of the call of the times and personal response.Cai Yuanpei’s educational ideology is embodied in a series of practical measures he has taken to govern Peking University.He regards the concept of "sound personality" as the core goal of education throughout Peking University,paying special attention to the coordination of college students’ own physiology and psychology,the integration of informed meaning,and the harmony of personality and group.In the practice of education,he established the "five-education and simultaneous" education system,that is,the integrated education mode of moral education,intellectual education,sports,aesthetic education and worldview education that is fully committed to the growth of college students;in the concept of university management and school running,he pursues the concept of “education independence” and “freedom of thought and compatibility” to create a relaxed,democratic and free campus atmosphere for the improvement of students’ personality.This article combined with the latest model of the exploration and innovation of the humanities quality education development of Yuan Pei College of Peking University and Fudan College of Fudan University,we find the foothold of Cai Yuanpei’s educational thought in the current era,and extract some feasible measures for the development of humanistic quality education in colleges and universities.The first is that colleges and universities should strengthen the understanding of the concept of "sound personality" of college students and conserve the "humanity" of college students.The second is to interpret Cai Yuanpei’s "five-education and simultaneous" concept in the context of current higher education.He believes that the ultimate goal is to stimulate the self-discipline and self-examination of self-discipline.Thirdly,colleges and universities should pay attention to the important educational carrier of "college life" and actively promote the construction of the college accommodation system in parallel with life and study.Finally,colleges and universities should carry out the reform and development of humanistic quality education in accordance with the characteristics of their own schooling,school-based and timely adaptation.Taking the 2011 College of Nanjing University of Technology as a case,the paper further elaborates the specific path to promote the development of humanities education in colleges and universities.
