With the rapid development of science and technology, programming education in primary and secondary schools has received more and more attention, and the state has issued a series of related policies are issued to offer programming courses in primary and secondary schools.Scratch has become a programming language that elementary school students prefer because of its intuitiveness, simplicity, and easier.Primary school programming in developed areas is quickly promoted, but the progress is slow in underdeveloped areas in the west. How to promote the rapid development of programming education in underdeveloped areas, stimulate students' motivation to learn Scratch programming, increase their interest in learning, and expand rich case resources have become an urgent problem to be solved in this thesis. Therefore, this thesis spreads out research from the following aspects. The research content of this thesis includes four parts pre-test analysis of primary school students' motivation to learn programming courses, and student classroom behavior in underdeveloped areas, design of primary school Scratch gamification case resource library, construction of primary school Scratch teaching model based on ARCS model, and teaching practice and effectiveness analysis.Firstly, the literature review method is used to sort out the development status of ARCS model and Scratch teaching at home and abroad,The basic theories such as ARCS model, gamification teaching theory, learning pyramid theory is deeply understanded,The concepts of learning motivation, gamification teaching and their effects on learning relationship are analyzed.Secondly,in order to understand the current situation of Scratch programming teaching in the underdeveloped areas of the west, the questionnaire survey method was used to investigate the learning motivation of the two classes in the fifth grade of Yangfan Primary School in T area of Guizhou;the classroom observation method was used to observe the classroom teaching situation;the interview method was used to interview three information technology teachers to point out the direction for the development of follow-up motivation strategies. Then, based on the ARCS model, combined with gamification teaching elements,a primary school Scratch teaching model based on the ARCS model and supporting gamification case resources is designed. Finally, the combination of case resources and teaching mode is applied to teaching practice, questionnaire survey, student learning classroom observation scale and student work analysis are used to measure and evaluate students' learning motivation, classroom behavior performance, and learning works.By comparative analysis of the teaching experiment through pre-test and post-test,it is found that the students' learning motivation level is obviously improved, the classroom learning atmosphere is active and orderly, most of the students can make complete and creative works, and the teachers and students are very satisfied with the teaching mode of this research. The research results show that the teaching mode that combines the ARCS model with gamification elements can stimulate students' learning motivation;the teaching case resources developed with the ARCS model as the theoretical guidance can strengthen the consolidation of knowledge and greatly promote the learning of Scratch programming;students' learning behavior and achieved significant teaching effects can be improved. It provides a reference for the study of programming teaching and cultivating students' programming ability in elementary schools in the western underdeveloped areas.
