For Indonesian Chinese teachers and students,the biggest difficulty in learning Chinese is Chinese characters.In the large Chinese character family,picto-phonetic characters occupies more than 80% of the Chinese characters,and the meaning of these words is defined by the radical of these characters,so that is why the radical and radical teaching is very important.This thesis firstly analyze the radical teaching that appear in a series of primary school textbooks used in Indonesia(including“汉语”(hàn yǔ),“轻松学汉语少儿版(Chinese Made Easy for kids)”and“欢乐伙伴(huān lèhuǒbàn)”),and point out their respective advantages and disadvantages.Secondly,this paper will analyze the Chinese character bias related to the radicals,and collect the data from the perspective of teachers and students through the questionnaire.In the end,this thesis will put forward the teaching strategies for the problems of the radical teachings,the problems that arise when the teacher teaches Chinese radicals and when the students study Chinese radicals.The current situation of Chinese character teaching will provide first-hand information for the study of Chinese character teaching in Indonesia.At the same time,the Chinese character teaching strategy proposed by this paper can directly guide the teaching of Chinese characters in Indonesian primary schools.The analysis of the questionnaires of teachers and students can be divided into three aspects: First,teachers and students think that classroom radical teaching is very important,but because more than 80% of teachers when teaching new Chinese characters not explaining in details about these vocabs’ radical,so the students don’t have sufficient radical knowledge.Therefore,when the students learn new Chinese characters,they cannot use the knowledge to speculate on the meaning of new Chinese characters.Second,teachers and students think that the textbooks teach the radicals of the Chinese characters they are learning but they are not sufficient to assist the classroom radical teaching.Third,more than 50% of teachers has insufficient knowledge of the radicals and the students who use the "Chinese Made Easy for kids" textbook have the best radical knowledge,while the students who use " hàn yǔ" have the worst radical knowledge.Based on statistics and surveys,this paper proposes some Chinese character radical teaching methods and the specific teaching steps are: first,let the students grasp the pictograms words,understand the combined ideogram words,and then let the students learn the ideogram plus phonetic words,master the radicals,and then classifies the commonly used Chinese characters radicals,emphasizing the original meaning and the extension meaning of the Chinese characters radicals.
