This thesis is based on the historical institutionalism,in which the theory of dissipative structure,social mobility and talents flow are applied.Along with methods of historical analysis,document analysis,comparative research and interview,etc.Systematically observing and studying the patterns and prospect of faculties' mobility from 1949 to 1999,and according to the situation and trend of faculties' mobility,connecting with the transition to put forward the suggestions to optimize the faculties' mobility.Research findings are as follows:Firstly,there are four patterns of faculties' mobility in higher education.First is the mobile pattern with government-oriented,which is featured with government's appointment,administrative order and deployment of faculties.Second is the mobile pattern with market-oriented,in which the market plays a decisive role in the resource allocation.Third one is the mobile pattern,which depends on the faculties' own choices.The last one is the strategic planning of colleges and universities,whose ultimate goal is to promote colleges' development by considering both the colleges' and faculties' willingness.Secondly,the mobility of higher education teachers in China presents a change mode as follows,which is influenced by multiple factors throughout its development.Viewing from the pattern changes,the main pattern of faculties' mobility is different in different times.Viewing from the aspiration of mobility,it transfers from passive to active.Viewing from the way,it changes from allocate designedly to a two-way choice.Thirdly,faculties' mobility shows its features.First is the social influence on faculties' mobility.Influential factors differ in different ages.Second is the influence of policies,which are the institutional basis of faculties' mobility and offered the direction for faculties thus standardizing the mobility to the greatest extent.Third is the necessity of reasonable rules.The phenomenon of imbalance and brain-drain in the mobility need further perfection of the laws and regulations to keep pace with the social development.Fourthly,there are some unordered phenomenons,such as the imbalance indistricts,frequent interscholastic flows and turnover of teachers,etc.Moreover,some suggestions are put forward in this thesis,including the government should carry out its function to macro-control,the universities should grasp sovereignty to regulate,and the faculties should enhance personal qualities to mobility honestly.
