Sports And Religion-Based On The Sports History Research From Hellenistic Period To The Middle Ages

The research of sports history is quite common in history field,but it has led to the abundant developing features because of the various research theories and ways,which needs us to rethink about the thinking method and the object of study.When historians write the history,they mainly distinguish two aspects: “history facts” and“history theory”.For the “history facts”,general history and dynastic history are the primary ways to make out history and each way has its advantages and disadvantages.For the “history theory”,social history and cultural history gets their criticism and progress.In this context,this thesis turns the relationship between sports and religion into a historical clue,using literature method and logic analysis method to clarify the evolution of sports from Hellenistic period to Middle Ages.This paper is divided into five parts to illustrate the sports from Hellenistic period to Middle Ages.Firstly,form the perspective of historiography,it discusses and analyzes the former studies on sports and religion from Hellenistic period to Middle Ages,putting forward the problems and attribution in the progress of history research.Based on that,this paper tries to find out the religion's profound influence on social?political and normal life rom Hellenistic period to Middle Ages.At the same time,by incorporating the historical changes of sports into it,specifically shows the changes of social power institutions ?social trending and social consciousness and emphasizes the influence and effect of religious reform,especially Christian thought on the changes of sports history.This thesis focuses on the religion and historical philosophy to tease out the development of sports from Hellenistic period to Middle Ages.Through the research of cultural history,it manages to break out the gap between “general history” and‘dynastic history” and integrates the history of ideas into sports history,realizing the active attempt between theories and methods of sports history.
