In the past 40 years of reform and opening up,Guangdong has gradually evolved from a poverty-stricken agricultural province to China's largest economy and population.In 2015,the province's gross regional product value reached 7,278,055 million yuan,an increase of 8.0% over the previous year,and it is located in the forefront of the country.However,the development of higher education in Guangdong Province is slightly inferior to its economic status and level.Economy ahead of higher education is an important feature of Guangdong's development.Since 1990,Guangdong Province has been striving to develop education to balance the gap between higher education and the economy.In 1999,the college began to expand the popularization of higher education.For example,in 2013,the "Strive to create high ground first" education strategy was proposed.With the government work report this year,Guangdong Province proposed the "New Era Higher Education Strategy" based on the needs of economic and social development,optimizing the structure of higher education,accelerating the construction of "two-class" and supporting the task of "establishing a distinctive and highlevel university in the Midwest." Facing the favorable development trend of higher education in Guangdong Province,how to effectively play higher education in promoting human capital and promoting economic development is of great significance.Studying the contribution of Guangdong's higher education to economic growth will help the government to adjust the structure of higher education,promote the upgrading of the economic structure industry,and provide direction for the development of innovation.On the basis of relevant research and theory,this paper first uses econometrics Granger causality test method to study the relationship between higher education and economic growth in Guangdong Province.And through the establishment of Cobb-Douglas function the contribution of Guangdong higher education to economic growth is studied empirically.Main research contents: First,review the literature and theory of higher education,economic growth,relative relation and contribution;Secondly,the paper makes a descriptive analysis of the overall situation of higher education and economic growth in Guangdong Province in 1999.The research shows that the scale of higher education in Guangdong Province is stable and the economic growth momentum is good.Thirdly,using co-integration theory and Granger causality test,this paper studies the interaction between the scale of higher education and economic growth in Guangdong Province before and after the expansion of higher education.Interaction is more frequent;Fourthly,the contribution of higher education to economic growth from 2001 to 2015 in Guangdong Province is analyzed empirically and compared with the contribution of higher education to economic growth in China from 2001 to 2001.The study shows that the contribution value of Guangdong Province is lower than that of the whole country.Fifty,The reason why higher education in Guangdong province has low contribution to its economic growth can be concluded as follow.The first reason is that the development of education is unbalanced with economic and social development.The second is the insufficient investment in higher education.And the third is that the teaching conditions of higher education are lagging behind,etc.Sixth,Focusing the above problems,the article puts forward some suggestions to discuss the deficiency and prospect of the research on higher education in Guangdong province.Guangdong province should take steps as follow.First is to improved education environment from hardware.Second is to increase the number of full-time teachers in universities.Then speed up the construction of teaching infrastructure and effectively and reasonably allocate education resources.By doing this can higher education coordinate with economic growth.
