With the increasing awareness of corporate social responsibility in the academic community.Domestic and foreign scholars have discussed the motivation, influencing factors and economic consequences of corporate social responsibility on the basis of different perspectives. However, previous studies have neglected the impact of the heterogeneity of personal characteristics on corporate social responsibility.Nowadays, more and more women have joined the top management team of the company and become a role that cannot be ignored in enterprise decision-making.Therefore,this thesis studies the relationship between female executives and corporate social responsibility. The government's excessive intervention and imperfect legal environment are two prominent features of the external institutional environment in the context of China's transition economy, and there are also significant differences in different parts of China. Therefore, this thesis believes that the external institutional environment has important influence on corporate social responsibility decisionmaking.Based on upper echelons theory, feminine ethics of care, and institutional theory, this thesis selects the data of A-share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen between 2011 and 2015 as the research object, and comprehensively applies research methods of theoretical analysis and empirical testing. In the analysis of the relationship between women executives and corporate social responsibility,to further examine the regulatory role of the external institutional environment on the relationship between the two.The study finds that compared with male executives, female executives(female CEOs and the proportion of female executives)are positively correlated with corporate social responsibility, that is,female CEOs or the higher the proportion of female executives, the better corporate social responsibility performance;further studies figures out that the less government intervention(or the more high governmentmarket relationship index)and perfect legal environment can positively adjust the relationship between female executives and corporate social responsibility.Based on previous scholars' research, this thesis expands the research direction of corporate social responsibility related fields and provides further empirical evidence for the role of female executives in corporate governance and decision making.Through the conclusions,we can see that this thesis advocates that companies build gender differences in their senior management team and balance the gender ratio of the team. This will not only create a fair career platform for more women, but also promote enterprises to better fulfill their social responsibilities.
