With the further development of economic globalization and the rapid update of technology,the 21 st century has entered the era of knowledge economy.People's daily life,work and learning style are constantly being impacted and challenged by new things and new technologies.The future is full of infinite possibilities,and what kind of knowledge and skills an individual should have in order to better adapt to the change of times.This issue has received worldwide attention.The United States has proposed the “Framework for 21 st Century Learning”.Many European and Asian countries have successively issued a talent literacy framework for their own national conditions and cultural pursuits,and China also released the “Overall Framework for the Core Literacy of Chinese Students' Development”.Multiple frameworks clearly emphasize problem solving ability.The progress of the times is inseparable from the innovation of human beings.It is a significant mission of today's education to cultivate innovative talents for social and national development,and STEM education is one of the most important ways to cultivate students' sense and ability of innovation.Scientific and effevtive evaluation of problem solving performance in STEM education is the key to developing students' problem solving skills and improving the effectiveness of STEM education.This study considers the process performance and result performance of students in STEM problem solving as equally important and combinates quantitative and qualitative methods to design a student problem solving evaluation system.From three perspectives——learners,teachers and researchers,the STEM problem solving inventory,student questionnaire,learning record,classroom observation,work evaluation as well as teacher and student interview are included,and the problem solving performance level of students in STEM education are comprehensively evaluated.The relationship between the performance of each stage,as well as the process performance and the result performance in STEM education is analyzed,and the factors may affect the problem solving performance in STEM are discussed.Based on this,the STEM problem solving path model is constructed.The research results show that:(1)Evaluation system: the multi-view STEM problem solving evaluation system is feasible and effective.(2)STEM problem solving characteristics: the students' overall STEM problem solving performance level is high;the students' STEM problem solving performance is not significantly different in gender,but the difference is significant at the grade level;the students' STEM problem solving performance level are presented in four types,that is positive-excellent,positive-potential,positive-fluctuant and negative-inefficient.(3)The relationship between the STEM problem solving performance of each stage,as well as the process performance and the results performance: direct impact exists between the STEM problem solving performance of each stage;and the process performance has a direct impact on the result performance.(4)Influencing factors: environment support,recognition,emotional attitude,and high-order thinking has a direct impact on the STEM problem solving performance;and belief planning has an indirect impact on STEM problem soloving performance.
