With the deepening reform of the new curriculum standards and the continuous development of teaching methods,the teaching mode of biology is also changing with each passing day.The 5E Teaching Mode originates from the Atkin-Karlius learning ring of BSCS in the United States.It is divided into five parts:Engagement 、 Exploration 、 Explanation 、 Elaboration and Evaluation.Since the English expression of each link begins with the letter E,it is called 5E Teaching Mode for short.The idea of 5E Teaching Mode is highly consistent with the idea of inquiry learning advocated by the new curriculum standard of junior middle school,aiming at cultivating students’ inquiry thinking and integrating theory with practice.This paper is a practical teaching research on the application of 5E Teaching Model in junior middle school biology classroom.This research chooses two parallel classes of a middle school in Saihan District of Hohhot City as the research object.One adopts 5E Teaching Mode and the other adopts conventional teaching mode.Through literature research method,experimental method of group analysis,interview method,case analysis method,questionnaire survey method and so on,the teaching design of 5E Teaching Mode is mainly presented,and the teaching cases are presented.SPSS 22 software is used for biological teaching.The questionnaires of learning interest and attitude and the test of learning achievement are used to analyze the teaching effect of 5E Teaching Mode,find out the existing problems,and give teaching strategies accordingly.The results show that:(1)According to the interview and analysis of the teachers’ use of 5E Teaching Mode,the teachers do not have a deep understanding of its teaching mode in the schools under study and have not promoted it.The research finds that it is related to the local secondary school entrance examination system,the teaching situation in the school and the energy of teachers.Teachers should not only pay attention to the basic knowledge level of students,but also pay attention to the comprehensive quality of students.(2)There is no significant difference between 5E Teaching Mode and students’ learning interest,attitude and achievement in a short period of time.The research finds that it is related to students’ cooperation,students’ own cognitive level and young teachers’ lack of experience.Teachers need to constantly strengthen their professional accomplishment,understand more deeply every link of teaching mode,and guide students’ own quality and cognitive weakness for a long time.(3)After testing the 5E Teaching Model before and after the experiment class,we found that the learning attitude has changed positively after the implementation of 5E teaching,which is mainly related to the construction of class style and the supervision of teachers.Teachers organize teaching reasonably according to the class situation,create a meaningful situation for students to construct,constantly improve in practice,using 5E Teaching Mode can improve students’ inquiry ability and creativity,and improve the effectiveness of biology classroom.
