With the advancement of the “One Belt and One Road”,the northwestern region has become a bridgehead for the country’s opening to the outside world, and universities in this region have assumed the important mission of transporting talented people.Northwest universities have different characteristics from other regions, such as drought, windy and dusty, sharp differences in temperature and has many minority students.Under this background, the adaptation of freshmen in the first year will directly affect their growth and development in the coming years. At the same time,it will also affect the quality of students in this university. Then, how is the adaptability of the freshmen in this area? How do they adapt? What factors have influenced their adaptability? Based on the Tinto Dropout Model and Social Support Theory, this study takes the freshmen(2016 class)as the research object, uses a combination of quantitative method and qualitative method to explore the adaptability of freshmen in the field of study, social, psychological and environmental life of this university, which can promotes the “Belt and Road” education strategy, provides policy basis and experience to promote the improvement of the quality of personnel training in Northwest China and the improvement of Freshmen’s adaptability. The results of the study are as follows:(1)In general, freshmen showed a good adaptability in the four dimensions of study, social, psychological and living environment, indicating that the degree of integration with the institutions was higher overall.(2)The adaptive process of freshmen is divided into three categories.: strong continuous adaptability, becoming stronger adaptability and weak continuous adaptability. The adaptive process of freshmen who have been adapting well has emerged in the form of a stable; The adaptive process of freshmen who have developed from weak to strong has presented a J-shaped form;adaptation of freshmen who haveconsistently been poorly adapted has likewise presented a process of adaptation.A shape, but its level of adaptation is low.(3)Through the analysis of six types of influencing factors,it is found that the main factors that cause the freshmen’s adaptability are their own internal factors, including the personal characteristics, the emotional drive of the internal hair and the internal driving behavior support. The main factors that cause the freshman adaptation to be stronger are the external support factors, mainly including the group institutional support and the behavioral support constrained by the organization system. The main reason for the weaker adaptation of some freshmen is that they use less internal and external support.(4)Compared with the Tinto Dropout Model, this research framework emphasizes the influence and role of the external environment and institutional cultural institutional environment. The academic and social subsystems in the Dropout Model were expanded into four dimensions: learning, social, psychological and environmental, making the study more comprehensive.
