A Study On The Impact Of Chinese Labor Quality On Economic Growth

Since the Reform and Opening,China's economy has developed very rapidly.But the implementation of the long-term family planning policy has brought about important changes in China's population structure and demographic bonus began to decrease,which caused inputs of labour elements began to decrease in China's economic system,to a certain extent,led to a decline in China's economic growth.The idea of simply relying on the input of labor forces to promote economic growth has been challenged.To develop the economy,we can only promote economic growth by improving the quality of the labor force and thus improving the productivity of the total factor of labor.Based on this understanding,this dissertation believes that in economic growth,it is necessary to consider the impact of the quality of labor force on economic growth.It is not only the basic requirement of theoretical research,but also the basic requirement of policy making practice.These understandings constitute the background and foundation of this research.To clarify the relationship between labor quality and economic growth,the first issue is to define the concept of labor quality.In the current study,for the term"Quality of Labour",though some of the news media in the widely used,but in the academia,the concept of quality of labor has no unified view of authority.According to this dissertation,the labor quality is the human capital stock of the labor force,which contains two aspects,namely,the education degree of the labor force and the health degree of the labor force.A geometric mean is used to characterize the quality of labor.This is the basis of empirical analysis of labor quality and economic growth.The distribution of Chinese labor quality reveals the basic law of Chinese labor quality:On the whole,the quality of Chinese labor is on the rise.The quality of Labour in the east is higher than in the Midwest,and the quality of Labour in the eastern provinces has been relatively stable.The regional labor quality distribution has the spatial clustering effect,and the areas with high labor quality are adjacent to each other,indicating the spatial dependence of the distribution of labor quality.In the empirical part,this dissertation builds the common panel model and the spatial measurement model based on the labor quality index data.Through these two models,it is found that after controlling the spatial autocorrelation,the contribution rate of labor quality to economic growth is significantly increased,and every 1%increase in labor quality promotes economic growth of 0.1154%.In the space econometric model,the spatial error model is determined and the random effect is used for regression analysis.Depending on the level of economic development in the eastern and western regions,the effect of policies will be different.Therefore,the dissertation investigated the east Midwest labor quality and the relationship between economic growth and the empirical analysis,found that the eastern region of the labor force quality contribution rate was 0.1451%,significantly higher than the Midwest.Identify the reasons,the eastern region's human capital stock is higher,the main function of human capital investment in higher education,knowledge innovation and technological progress,it can effectively improve labor productivity and promote economic growth;While the central and western regions due to their low human capital stock,the government's policy is mainly to develop the elementary education,popularizing compulsory education,and this kind of human capital investment of the marginal output of labor itself effect is not significant,this led to the central and western regions of the contribution rate of labor force quality is relatively low.In the robustness test,the dissertation cut out Guangdong and Tibet provinces which has the maximum and minimum output,and then use the relevant data to take the spatial econometric model test,the result shows that the conclusion is established.In policy section,the dissertation suggests to improve the condition of China's economic unbalanced development,and increase the material capital investment at the same time,pay attention to labor force quality,increase human capital investment to the labor force in order to improve the labor productivity,improve knowledge innovation,promote the continuous and stable economic growth.
