Since the reform and opening up,China has changed from a planned economy system to a market economy system.Under the combined effects of marketization, industrialization, and urbanization,a large number of people have flowed from economically underdeveloped areas to developed areas, and from rural areas to urban areas.Research shows that by of the end of2019,the total floating population in China reached 236 million, accounting for 16.86% of the total population of the country. How dose such a large-scale population flow affect the regional economic development? Clarifying this problem will help us to further examine the population mobility policy, especially the advantages and disadvantages of the household registration system. It provides theoretical basis and decision-making reference for futher promoting economic development and accelerating the formation of domestic circulation. On the basis of combing relevant research at home and abroad, the paper firstly analyzes the influence mechanism of the scale and structure of population flow on regional economic growth. Then, using the date of the fourth national census in 1990,the 1% national sample survey in 1995,the fifth national census in 2000,the 1% national sample survey in 2005,the sixth national census in 2010,the 1% national sample survey in 2015 and China Statistical Yearbook, this paper makes a descriptive analysis of China's population flow and economic growth.Futhermore, using the fixed effect spatial error model, this paper studies the influence of the scale of population flow on regional economic growth from the perspectives of population inflow and population outflow. Finally,in order to analyze the influence of the structure of population flow on regional economic growth, this paper uses the data of the sixth national census in 2010 to analyze its impact on the economic growth of inflow ares by using multiple linear regression model from the perspective of education level and gender, and makes supplementary research by using correlation analysis from the perspective of flow reasons and occupation. The results show that the inflow of population significantly promotes the economic growth of the inflow areas. For every 1% increase in population inflow, per capita GDP growsby 0.1947% on average.Population outflow also promotes the economic growth of the outflow place. For every 1% increase in population outflow, per capita GDP grows by0.1609% on average;Improving the education level of the inflowing population can promote the economic growth of the inflowing places. For every 1% increase in the number of people with higher education level, per capita GDP grows by 0.1765% on average; No matter what the floating population flows for,it will promote the economic growth of the inflowing places; There is no obvious difference in the influence of different genders of the inflowing population on the economic growth of the inflowing places; There is no obvious difference in the influence of different occupations of the inflowing population on the economic growth of the inflowing places. Finally, according to the above analysis,in order to break down the barrier of population flow and promote the steady economic growth, the corresponding policy recommendations are put forward.
