Research On The Basketball Culture Of Overseas Chinese Villages In Southern Fujian

Basketball originated from Springfield College in Massachusetts in 1891 and was introduced to China in 1896.It has a history of more than one hundred years People's view of it has experienced the evolution process from strangeness and resistance to familiarity and love.In the modern history of China,as a trading port along the coast,southern Fujian have more access to the sport of basketball early through western missionaries,businessmen,officials and overseas Chinese.Jinjiang city is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in southern Fujian.Under the influence of the overseas Chinese and Chinese,Jinjiang city is tightly bound to basketball and is known as the "hometown of basketball",which benefited by the participation and contribution of overseas Chinese in southern Fujian in the early days.Nowadays,in the situation of national fitness strategy and new socialist rural construction program,the basketball competition in Jinjiang villages is becoming more and more popular and has a certain influence nationwide,which is followed by other regions in China.As an important activity to celebrate festivals in southern Fujian,basketball has been integrated into folk-customs and become an important part of local cultural life.With the method of fieldwork,the paper explores and analyses the basketball culture in the villages of southern Fujian from an anthropological perspective.Theoretically,the study can not only enrich the current theories and methods of sports culture research in southern Fujian,but also provide new ideas and perspectives for the researches about village sports culture.In practice,the study takes the basketball competitions in Jinjiang villages as the point of penetration,aimed at in-depth analysis of the history,current situation and development of basketball.Based on the phenomenon that basketball culture coexists and integrates with local festivals,temple fairs,weddings and other folk customs,the paper trys to discuss the cultural and social values behind the folklore turn of competitive sports,and to provide some references and inspirations for the development of village basketball sports and its role in the national fitness and new rural construction.
