The Influence Of Socioeconomic Status On The Health Level Of The Elderly And Its Mechanism Analysis

The situation of population aging in China is becoming more and more serious.The health status of the elderly has been widely concerned by scholars from all walks of life.When it comes to the impact of socioeconomic status on the health of the elderly,the previous literature pays more attention to the direct causal relationship between the two,but lacks the discussion of the intermediate mechanism.The research of intermediate mechanism can better provide a basis for formulating relevant policy interventions.Therefore,this paper combines domestic and foreign literature research to analyze the intermediate mechanism of the socioeconomic status affecting the elderly's health level using the logit model.And this paper attempts to explore the heterogeneity between urban and rural areas furtherly.This paper uses the data of China Family Panel Studies from 2016 to study the impact of socioeconomic status on the health of older people.First,it reviews relevant literatures,and describe the elderly's socioeconomic status and health level to understand its current situation.Then,this paper uses the logit regression model to analyze the relationship between socioeconomic status and the health level of the elderly.And applies the variables of health behavior,social relations,and material living conditions to explore the differences in the impact of socioeconomic status on the health of the elderly.Finally,this paper analyzes the impact of socioeconomic status on the health of the elderly in the household registration.The study shows that: firstly,there is a significant positive correlation between socioeconomic status and the health level of the elderly.Secondly,the reason why the elderly people with high socioeconomic status can maintain their health advantage is partly because they have healthier living behaviors,better social relationships,and healthier material living conditions.Thirdly,this study finds that socioeconomic status significantly affects the health level of rural household registration,but it has less impact on the elderly in urban household registered.Based on the results of the research,this paper proposes targeted countermeasures to reduce the level of health inequalities by improving the health behaviors,material living conditions,family relationships,good neighborliness,and community health environment.We should lean towards the elderly in rural household registration in relevant policies.
