The topic of health has been the focus of human discussion since ancient times.Previous studies have confirmed that socioeconomic status plays a decisive role in health inequality. However, since the 1970 s,with the income inequality and the widening gap between the rich and the poor, the academic community has gradually observed that although absolute income and social status have a negligible effect on people's physical and mental health, this is not the only factor which can explain health inequality. In contrast, the disparity with the peer group and the resulting relative deprivation may have a more pronounced impact on individual health, especially mental health,or more precisely,as a variable to explain the relationship between the two.Currently, foreign studies have revealed that relative income deprivation has a significant impact on the physical and mental health of individuals, and there are only a handful of studies in China that have not been effectively intervened and analyzed. Thus,on the basis of discussing the impact of socioeconomic status on the current Chinese residents' individual physical and mental health, this paper uses the survey data of Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS)in 2015 and introduce relative deprivation as an intermediary variable. And then analyze and test whether there is a valid causal chain among the three. The results of the study confirm the conclusion that there is a significant difference in individual physical and mental health due to different socioeconomic status.Individuals with higher socioeconomic status will have better health. At the same time, the study also confirms that relative deprivation has an impact on the physical and mental health of individuals and can explain the relationship between socioeconomic status and people's health level to a certain extent. The influence mechanism can be described as the fact that the lower the socioeconomic status, the more likely it is for people to have a strong sense of relative deprivation, and the accumulation of relative deprivation will directly affect people's health level physiologically and psychologically. This also provides a supplementary explanation for the relationship between socioeconomic status and health from a psychological perspective.
