Core competencies are a combination of the essential character and key capacities for personal lifelong development and social development.The education featuring core competencies embodying the value of cultivation of people and following the educational concept of “giving priority to moral education,taking capacity development as the main emphasis and attaching great importance to comprehensive development” has set clear requirements for teaching,pointed out the direction,and benefited students in better acquiring scientific knowledge,scientific methods and scientific theories so as to fully prepare students for future work and life.Aiming at cultivating students' core competencies through instruction,the present author of this thesis took the instruction of “Element Periodic Law of Elements” in Chemistry(Compulsory 2)as the research object and carried out instructional design on this lesson by adopting research methods such as studying literature,interview and educational experiment and employing instructional design strategies such as task-driven method,situation creation and triple representation.During the case instruction in the school where the present author interned,comparative research was carried out between the experimental class(instruction based on core competencies in chemistry)and the control class(instruction based on traditional instruction method).The results showed that instruction featuring core competencies in chemistry produced better effect.With the implementation of case instruction featuring core competencies in the subject,the capacity of students in the experimental class of receiving new knowledge was improved.And such students were more active in answering questions in class,finished homework in a better way,and raised questions with deeper insight than students in the control class.Additionally,the classroom atmosphere was much better as well.Nonetheless,there were also some problems in the practice of education featuring core competencies,such as the lack of competencies in teachers,students being distracted,students' insufficient ability to explore,and the lack of teaching resources in practical teaching.Subsequent to thepractical teaching and survey,the present author of this paper suggested that the school where the present author interned should be equipped with teacher assistants for practical teaching,provide regular teacher training and regular evaluation and feedback on instruction,introduce hot topics related to chemistry to increase students' knowledge,and further increase the number of practice courses and achieve the educational goal of “giving priority to moral education,taking capacity development as the main emphasis and attaching great importance to comprehensive development”in implementing the education featuring core competencies.
