Graduate students are researchers engaged in research-based learning.During their study, they need to carry out lots of academic activities, and one of the most important activities of postgraduate academic activities is academic writing.Academic writing, including writing, revising, publishing, communication, and feedback,is an important task for postgraduates while studying at school. However, many postgraduates report that they know very little about academic writing and feel inadequate in the face of various academic writing-related tasks. They believe that they do not have academic writing abilities and cannot truly possess academic identity.A lot of research has been conducted on academic identity, and the relationship between academic writing and academic identity construction has also been explored by many researchers. However, most of the research subjects are senior scholars, doctoral students, university teachers and other groups.Research on the construction of postgraduate students' academic identity is still rare. This thesis aims to fill the gap in this aspect and explore the process of one postgraduate student's construction of his academic identity while accomplishing academic writing. At the same time,on the basis of the previous literature, this paper further sorts the factors that affect the construction of the master student's academic identity into personal, behavioral and environmental factors.Combining with Bandura's Reciprocal determinism,I constructed a theoretical framework for the construction of academic identity.Realizing identity construction and promoting academic writing are not overnight efforts. Both of them require a process which depends on long-term accumulation and development, and it is a process that reflects a graduate student's continuous improvement in academic writing skills, research abilities, and his or her comprehensive qualities. Therefore, this article adopts narrative inquiry to deeply listen, observe, and feel the process of the targeted subject's identity development in academic writing. This thesis selects a postgraduate student majoring in Curriculum and Pedagogy in S University as the research subject This research subject has just begun his study for a master's degree. He was confused about his academic identity and did not know how to improve his academic writing,so he is an ideal research subject. In the following one year,I obtained detailed research data through interview, observation and the subject's writing materials. After transcribing and sorting the data,I summarized them into 10 stories. These stories narrate the process of academic identity construction of this postgraduate in academic writing and explores various influence factors and their impacts on the construction of academic identity. The thesis also proposes suggestions for postgraduates as to the construction of their academic identity and gives suggestions on the further development of Curriculum and Pedagogy major.
