The Influence Of College Students' Regret On Depression

In recent years,mental health of college students have attracted more and more attention.As a negative cognition and negative emotion,regret has a great impact on individual's motivation,emotion and behaviors,but there are few relevant researches focus on regret of college students.Regret cognition can lead to negative emotions such as depression and reduce the quality of study life and has a negative influence on mental health of college students.Meanwhile,personality trait,as a stable psychological characteristic,is an important influencing factor of depression.This study explores the relationship between regret,depression and personality traits of college students,therefore only understand the specific relationship between regret,depression and personality traits can be more deeply understood,but also provide some reference for maintaining college students' mental health,help college students planning their college life wisely.Self-Rating Depression Scale,Eysenck Personality Q uestionnaire-Revised,Short Scale for Chinese and self-designed Regret Scale for College Students were used to investigate 448 college students of Yangtze university.SPSS23.0 was used to process the collected data.The conclusions are as follows:1.There are 16 items in the self-designed Regret Scale for College Students,which contains three dimensions,namely,personal ability,interpersonal co mmunication and future security,negative events;the reliability and validity have been tested,this scale can be used to measure and study the regret of college students.2.Except individual ability dimension,the average score of regret and other dimensions are 2?3 points;in negative event dimension,male students are more likely to experience regret than female students(p < 0.001),there are no significant differences on regret and other dimensions in gender(p > 0.05);regret and other dimensions are significantly different in grade,senior undergraduate students are more likely to experience regret emotion than master students(p < 0.01);in interpersonal communication and future security dimension,liberal arts students are more likely to regret(p < 0.01)and there are no significant differences on regret and other dimensions in major(p > 0.05);in the dimension of individual ability,college students from rural areas regret more deeply than college students from township and urban areas(p < 0.05),and college students from rural areas regret more deeply than college students from urban areas in the total score of regret(p < 0.05).3.Average depression score of college students is 0.5358,which belongs to mild depression;there is no significant difference in depression between gender,grade,major and the place students come from(p > 0.05).4.Regret and extroversion can predict depression,psychoticism and neuroticism can predict depressio n;psychoticism and extroversion can predict regret,neuroticism can predict regret.5.Personality trait has significantly mediating effect between regret and depression(p < 0.01).
