It has been more than 30 years since the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued the "Decision on Education System Reform" in 1985 to encourage the development of private education, resulting in more and more diversified forms of education and alternative types of education in China. In addition, the continuous improvement of people's lives due to the enhancement of the economy also makes it possible for families to make choices in private education.Among them, extracurricular tutoring,as the "shadow" of formal school education, has developed rapidly. Therefore,it is a hot research topic for many scholars. However, most of the previous studies are about extracurricular tutoring in first-tier cities or provincial capitals, rather than that of small and medium-sized cities. In fact, although the economic development level of small and medium-sized cities is far lower than that of large cities such as coastal or provincial capitals, the overall scale and participation of the former in extracurricular tutoring is not inferior to that of the latter. For example,as a small city in the central region,X City has a tuition fee of over 100,000 yuan per year. However, why is there such a demand for extracurricular tuition in X City?Is it a bubble? In addition, with the evaluation, examination and admission under the new college entrance examination reform being different from the previous "score-oriented theory",how does the demand for extracurricular tuition in high school of X city change? In this paper, the author has made an investigation and study on the students and their parents of three ordinary high schools in X city through the methods of literature research, questionnaire survey and interview. There are five chapters in this paper.Chapter 1:Introduction.Based on the literature review of domestic and foreign studies on extracurricular tutoring, supply and demand theory and human capital theory, the thesis, research purpose and significance, and the definition of core concepts are introduced.Chapter 2:Construction of the theoretical model of the demand of the extracurricular Tutoring for ordinary high school students. There are three parts in this chapter. The first is a hypothesis of the demand of the extracurricular Tutoring for ordinary high school students. The second is a theoretical analysis of the differences in demand for extracurricular tutoring among different families. The third is a theoretical analysis of the performance of irrational needs in extracurricular tutoring and its influencing sources.Chapter 3:Investigation of extracurricular tutoring for high school students in X City. The author explains the research object and the investigation process. The data collected from the questionnaire survey are used to analyze the overall scale and basic situation of high school students attending after-school tutoring,as well as the scale, information sources, subjects, duration, expenses, willingness to spend, effect evaluation, etc.Chapter 4:Analysis of the demand for extracurricular tutoring for high school students in X City. There are three parts in this chapter. The first is the analysis of whether the demand is met.The second is about the analysis of the differences in the needs of different families for extracurricular tutoring. The third explains the irrationality of the demand for extracurricular tutoring and analyzes its reasons.Chapter 5:Conclusion and reflection on the demand of extracurricular tutoring. The author summarizes the research in this paper and puts forward some suggestions on the problems in extracurricular tutoring in X City. Finally, the author looks forward to the research based on the reflection on the deficiency of this research.
