Secondary vocational students are in the transition period of their lives and need to face the dual pressures of academics and employment.A considerable number of secondary vocational students have different levels of psychological problems,especially for female students during this period.With an increasing attention to their own bodies,psychological conditions such as inferiority and anxiety are more likely to occur.Social physique anxiety is a specific subtype of social anxiety,which is closely related to body esteem.Dance cheerleading has positive effects in improving physical shape and promoting mental health and it is easy to be carried out on campus because dance cheerleading has various styles and it doesn't require high professional skills of students.At present,researches on cheerleading in China are mainly focused on the group of college students and ordinary middle school students,but there is few empirical research on secondary vocational students.Therefore,this study selected 60 female students from Hubei Post and Telecommunications School as experimental subjects,and conducted a 16-week teaching experiment intervention from the perspective of practical application of dance cheerleading.The results were statistically analyzed by the using of SPAS and PSPP.The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of dance cheerleading on social physique anxiety and body esteem of secondary vocational female students,and to guide them to form a correct knowledge of their physique,hoping to provide theoretical and practical references for the improvement of physical and mental health of female students and the development of cheerleading exercises in secondary vocational schools.The experimental results are as follows:(1)After 16 weeks of dance cheerleading teaching,the experimental group had a very significant reduction in social physical anxiety(P<0.01)and a significant increase in body esteem(P<0.05).(2)The control group did not show significant difference before or after the experiment(P>0.05).But there was a significant increase in the dimensions of physical self-worth,athletic ability,and physical fitness(P<0.05).(3)After the experiment,it showed extremely significant difference between two groups in social physique anxiety(P<0.001)as well as in dimensions of physical self-worth,physical condition and physical attractiveness(P<0.05).It shows that dance cheerleading has more advantages than regular sports activities(track and field,ball games).(4)There was a negative correlation between social physique anxiety and some aspects of body self-esteem(R=-.367?-.506,P<0.05).With the increase of physical attractiveness and body esteem,the social physique anxiety of female students in secondary vocational school would be relieved.(5)The experimental results show that dance cheerleading can effectively reduce the social physique anxiety level of secondary vocational female students,improve the level of body esteem,and play a positive role in improving the physical and mental health of secondary vocational students.Therefore,it is of great significance to extend dance cheerleading to secondary vocational schools.
